So why are they not up there. I drive lorries a couple of days a week. Its insular, you go all day and maybe go in a couple of offices max all screened or talk through open windows ,
Maybe this Covid thing isnt as bad as the doom and gloom UK government is peddling. Having been out of the UK for 7 months I am amazed at how brainwashed everyone had become..."you must get vaccinated at all costs", "you must wear an ineffective mask outside" "oh my god we dont want all these millions of mutant varients travellers are bringing in" "we will all die" etc.... I keep hearing from neighbours and friends . I've been watching Swiss, French, German, Italian media for 7 months (as well as the dreadful UK MSM (excluding the biased BBC which we just don't watch anymore), you get none of this and they try and inject some positive news into the media, rather than if you get on the bus you will kill someone which is becoming the UK normal messaging.

I am glad that you are safely back in the UK, despite the problems on the way. I know that these past months have been very stressful for you, and hope that you can now relax and recover.

I am sorry to see that your thread has deteriorated into unfounded accusations of ‘wrong doing’. Unfortunately this seems to happen a lot on Fun at the moment.
Imo its what happens when you remove people's freedoms, some go all Stockholm syndrome but most get resentful and start to question why.

Sky is the worst now, the miserable Scottish guy ( no offense intended to nice scots) couldn't see a positive if it was right in front of him.

15000 tested to get into France after xmas problem 36 positive tests . I make that 0.24%
🤷🏻‍♂️ So what your saying is its ok for them to behave as witnessed then ?

My point was since leaving greece i had 3 negative tests in the space of a week and still had to isolate and take 2 more tests that going by the lack of results so far is pretty pointless but ive come in to less contact with people than most of those truckers.

I don't know what the percentage is i only know what i witnessed on one occasion over a few hours and if thats happening every few hours every day then theres a loy more risk than a few tourists returning home.

Who would of thought people might have extra trouble and expense when travelling in the worst Pandemic since 1918?
The point being made was the xhorbitant cost in rip off britain , when elsewhere is far cheaper or free.nothing else
At least Boris didnt get the blame for the traffic jam in Rouen!
You're doing someting wrong if you end up in one.I never have?
I'm sure the fun while others have been home and stuck made it all worth it for the op.
The op has now told you what the situation was & has doen for so many months on other threads I'm amazed everyone doesn't know
You blame Boris for everything?
In any job the buck stops with the boss even if the bloke cleaning the floor makes the *** up.
our case the Duane
They'd have arrested me as I don't let anyone in unescorted to anything . No even Uk old bill. out & locked .
had problems before with them 7 years ago insisting that I had to unlock doors from outside. Not possible when they are deadlocked top & bottom inside.
Additionally no, gloves of the medical type that can be sprayed, & remember I'd be carrying 3 types ready to use, means you aint touching sweet fa.

Just watching the super spreading truck drivers and officials and in our case the Duane just rubs salt into the wounds of people who take great care to protect themselves and others.
& that is the point I have made on many occasions. They shold all nbe tested daily. Hypocritical bunch of scum.
You go on a holiday in the middle of a pandemic, with the whole nation in a state of flux and everything that goes wrong is someone eles fault.

sad universal music GIF by Sigrid Bernson
As above you should know the op's situation.
Interesting how folk use Troll to mean anyone who has a different view
Interesting you got the Op's situation wrong & ..............
Maybe best to explain the situation in full before calling genuine people’s comments out as trolls?
Why?? pay attention on other threads.
Were you actually crying when you got back ?
I do when I start to see Dover. & I don't even live there. :giggle: i just dread what is to come, the obstandartefuhers at the shed if I've annoyed the muppets over the channel, the traffic jams, the hideous costs, the traffic jams, The various tfl & dart charge scams to obtain money, the traffic jams, I'm :crying::crying:just thinking of it.

Or, looking at it from another point of view, why aren't they seriously infected?? Have they built up immunity? Is it less catchable than we are being told?

That is because we, and most of the rest of the UK population, as well as the UK government, have been following the advice of qualified experts, not unqualified Covidiots who get their information from the bottom end of the internet. That is why UK rates are receding while most of the rest of Europe's are increasing. All those experts and major health organisations emphasise the importance of vaccinations and taking sensible precautions like masks and distancing.

My wife and I are both in the vulnerable category and it seems to us that a small minority of those who are supposedly not vulnerable seem to value their "rights" to enjoy themselves over our "rights" not to die prematurely. They seem to forget that with their "rights" come "responsibilities". But then they probably think we are useless wastes of resources who should be allowed to be culled.

I'm pleased Old age travellers have got back home safe and sound, even if hurting a bit in the wallet, and hope that the health situation improves. 🤗

As for this thread, what I find unfortunate is the attack on those who gave their views based on the information supplied in THIS thread ... whilst some of us may have been aware of the OP's situation many won't have been and have been lambasted for that. As we all know on such a popular forum threads drop off the first few pages quite quickly so if you don't spot and then read a thread there's no way to know what you've missed, therefore many of those who have commented based purely on the info given here shouldn't be ridiculed whatever their view.

If people want to have more appropriate comments then more of the pertinent facts need to be given initially so that a fuller picture of the situation can be seen and thus opinions etc more tailored to the situation at hand - I know this myself so take the time to post a fuller picture when starting threads where the wrong 'idea' could be gleamed - yes I know sometimes it ends up like 'War and Peace'! :giggle:

So for everyone sake funsters, please don't jump on each others backs, for whatever reason, but instead think of how what you write can be taken as it is often not just open to a single interpretation.

Id say the old rule applies then ...if you cant say something nice then scroll past

Trolling and judgement has become rife on here. ....even more so when locked up.

Rather than peoole having to write war and peace it would be simpler if those not knowing the facts wound their necks in till they did. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had some smart arse on my thread telling me i went of on a jolly during a Pandemic against advise etc .....and as the thread was 180 pages long at that point the full story had well and truly been given he'd just chose not to read it and instead homed in on one point to spread his negativity and judgement.

There are many people posted on this and other threads who ive never seen post anything positive on fun before yet have been here years .....but as soon as something pops up they can fire off a snidey negative comment on they are there.

This. (y)

It’s not difficult and it used to be the norm on Fun. Nowadays anyone who posts something trying to be helpful or informative is likely to be jumped upon by the all-too-ready-to-be-resentful brigade. It is why I’m currently posting very little on Fun - tho’ I am prepared to come to the defence of someone who is being badly treated.

I'm sorry some people have had additional expense but forgetting the argument for and against that may I say that there are so many Funsters on this forum that for us to read every post on every thread would be impossible.. So please don't condemn people for not being aware of all the facts. We would have to be stalking the poster to do that.

As I've said i fully agree with the testing, my only gripe is how much they charge in given circumstances compared to other country's.
The machines themselves cost ~£100,000 plus the well qualified staff to take samples, perform the test, analyse the result (and everything else). Plus the capacity wasn't there 2 years ago so the high-speed projects to set them up, so I think £133/test is probably the actual cost with a profit. And the costs are coming down (started at £300, lowest I've seen recently is £115 for home testing) as supply/demand market forces take effect.
Track and Trace has cost us, what, £25billion for a system that has, reportedly, not reduced infection. Some of that is for Mrs TalkTalk and friends but the majority has probably been on performing the actual PCR tests themselves (for "free"): 250,000 tests/day*£133/test*30days/month = £1 billion/month.
So, if people choose to travel then why should I subsidise them from my taxes?

But "the facts" that people are alluding to are not in the original post and I can't be the only one that does not know the "back story" if people are going to comment and it is a forum for discussion then they can only comment on the information presented in that conversation/post.

You are both correct - unpleasant comments for the sake of it I agree are unnecessary, however alternative views are quite valid.

Its no different to someone asking for help with X for which you give your answer Z but are then informed by the OP that you are wrong when you are told later by the OP that Y has an influence on X, but as you weren't initially told about Y the Z answer you gave wasn't appropriate through no fault of your own. Same with opinions on things ... we can only do so based on what we are informed of.

Steve’s wallet totally obsessed that we must have more cash as we’re only allowed to export less than 10,000 euros! Steve had €50.
Reminds me of the disbelief on the face of the Guardia officer when I was translating for someone who had there purse stolen
"how much was in it?"
"30€"
"30€"?
" yes 30€"
"30€"'
"yes, 30€" "is there a problem?
"No no ,usually holidaymakers have 7 or 800€ in there purse"
At which we both laughed.
We may pay bridge tolls but our motorways are free unlike France and Spain (Spain after years of robbery are ending tolls),,,,BUSBY,,
I have only used french tolls on one occasion going in the car to Germany. The 32km queue for one toll booth with me ranting that I am paying top money to be travelling at high speed not stuck in a ***ing queue on a 2 lane road that should have been upgrade 20 years ago or the 17 km queue at another means in the mh I never use them.
What I can't get my head round, as you hate Blighty so much, why do you come back?
First time was for a daughters wedding. Wife also works/worked there whilst living here. When she fell ill whilst there it has meant having to return for her yearly checks.
