Good luck to you. Such a shame we are so often expected to put up with poor workmanship.

The OP's experience with his new van must be deeply depressing. And, as others have indicated, perhaps not that rare.

I hope the rejection goes smoothly and that the dealer will provide at least some compensation, to enable you to get back on the road without undue delay.

Not such a serious problem for us, but we rejected a new factory order van which we'd waited circa 8 months for. We'd specified a comfortmatic semi-automatic gearbox... it turned up with a manual box! The dealer asked us if we could manage if an allowance on the price was provided, to which we said an emphatic no. However, after much discussion we accepted an alternative slightly more expensive stock van with comfortmatic, and also secured some compensation too. Thankfully, everything worked out OK in the end, but it was painful at the time.

Update to our saga and a Happy Ending (y)

Firrstl for those who askd the make and model was a Dreamer Living Van - Dealer Was Highbrige

On Saturday we part exchanged, with dealer accepting the full invocie amount for the van against a Hymer MLT 570 60 Edition.

Highbridge have been professional and never tried to baulk at either redunding our money, or in this case using it as a part exchange value against the replacment MH. Though I still think the pe delivery inspection was not good as at least some of the faults would have been identified. Did not get a discount though, free tank of fuel was all they would offer.

As per Dreamer I can only assume that maybe they used temporary staff during Covid and we had the worst Friday van ever. It was a shame as the an was lovely, but we lost complete confidence in the conversion integrity.

The new Hymer (well 2019) is fantastic, we accpeted the overight accomodation offer and fully tested everything!! As we previosuly had a Hymer there was no surprises. Our experience also taught us a couple of lessons

1) Due to Covid we purchased the Dreamer without actually seeing one in the flesh, we were smitten by the idea of the rear lounge, but in reality we missed the huge storage we had from our previous B578. We will be going on longer trips so underestimated how much stuff we bring.
2) The drop down bed was a tad smal for us and low and also if you needed the toilet it was awkward using the ladder, so we ended up making thje rear bed, which was comfy and large, but I hated the cushions having to be stored -tidy feak !!

The MLT 570 is basically a slighty shorter, narrower versaion of our B578, but wih lots of new toys, this met our original criteria of smaller and nimbler, so we are happy.

Downwide - we ended up spending lots more money, but we are happy and will be on the road again

For those purchasing a Dreamer, just be aware and make sure you test everything. Ours is on the market already, it probably will not be a bad van as we have had hopefully most of the faults rectified.

An excellent outcome and well done to the dealer despite the lack of a proper PDI in the first place.

Two things stand out from this tale for me are not buying British does not mean your not going to have any issues and having diesel heating has the potential to write off a van because of the virtual impossibility of getting rid of the smell from a serious spillage.
