We've got about a week to get down to Barcelona and we'd like a nice route taking in lakes, rivers and valleys etc, but avoiding expensive tolls.

I remember in my distant yoof taking many motorcycle rides down that side and seem to remember in and/or near mountains and lakes, but no idea of the routes LOL

We don't like towns, so if you know any nice places that we could string together, we'd be very grateful :)

It would be nice if we took in Gap as we know a lovely lakeside camp near there :)

Lovely scenery on the east side but in general the roads can get much busier, as they are the trunk route for Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic when their holiday season begins.
You could still win by keeping in from the western coast road and taking any of the less frequented crossings into Spain; St Jean Pied de Port, or the Somport tunnel to name just a couple. The area just north of Dax has a lovely Aires by a lake and woodland.

We're travelling up the West side to the UK. Then 7 leisurely days in France, followed by quick blat back to Cadiz :)
