I’m a newbie
Hi driving to St Ives from Newquay what roads are best have just driven to Newquay from Port Isaac and it was awful 😞

Assuming you're looking for fastest, rather than scenic,
A392
A3075
A30
A3074
around 30 miles and maybe up to an hour travel (traffic dependent at either end).

I asked Denzil just now on the best route for you, he said Well he said, "I wouldn't have started from there" Boom, Boom!
Hopefully you will get there buts its always hell this time of year, and with this weather everyone has their surf boards, body boards and nowadays Paddle Boards to try out.
All the best.

Looking for the better road rather than single trackers
All major "A" roads in the route I gave you. Travelled the vast majority of it, albeit in opposite direction, on a number of occasions over the last 10 years both with twin axle caravan and 4.25t motorhome..

If you have time, between st ives and Newquay is a delightful little place called Mutton Cove, it’s not accessible but you can park up and walk up the cliff to observe probably 60+ seals basking in the sun if the tide’s out, or swimming if it’s in

It’s an absolute joy to watch and the longer you watch, the more you can see moving around on the rocks, and getting in and out of the sea

Sorry if you knew already ☺️ Just brought back memories

Strongly recommend not driving down into St Ives itself due to one way system and narrow roads. An option would be to park in the Tescos at Caribs Bay and walk down. There is a sign advising max 2 hours free parking, but it is not ANPR enforced.

Funnily enough that's where I based previous mileage \ timings on!(y)

Godrevy Lighthouse and Lifeguard Station at Gwithian Beach just around the point from Mutton Cove.
