enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Hope no one is affected? High winds apparently has caused cancellations today. We are at La Rochelle and it was very windy last night. We can hear the sea from where we are and it sounds very 'rough'

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
It's not uncommon. I'm only 20 miles from Newhaven and have sailed across very many times in small small boats (7m length). The harbour is 'open' to the S. West where the majority of gales come from and the approach, outer harbour and ginnel are quite shallow and even shallower in the troughs of a large swell. I've known the returning ferry needing to lay off the harbour for up to 10 hours until the wind has abated and/or the tide risen.
As a gale progresses the wind direction usually veers to the N. West and then Dieppe harbour (which is open to the N. West) can become untenable.
