Newhaven/Dieppe

According to ground crew, Brittany Ferries are looking at taking over this route, no doubt it will become more expensive
They all will.

The cost of ship fuel (and crew) is going up like all other fuel.

The only thing that has kept it down this summer is the shipping companies tend to 'hedge' their fuel consumption months ahead, so they have a fixed price for several months so matter what happens to the fuel price on the open market.

By the end of the year the 2022 hedges will have expired and they will be fixing a hedge price for 2023 which will be at least double the figure they will have fixed for 2022.

I will ask Lenny HB nearer the time, he is local, uses it a lot or did in the past, and I bet he is on first name terms with the crew at Newhaven.;):giggle:
I love the Newhaven -Dieppe route, the sail time on the boat makes you feel you are really going away, and you can just chill out on board, especially if heading west down through France

At the moment it is LD lines but run by DFDS and its basicly kept going by subsidies from Dieppe Town Council. Must be coming to the end of the last 5 year grant from the council.

I've not heard anything about BF getting involved but as Lynne says if they do price's could rocket.
9 out of 10 times we go across the ferry's are very low on capacity I can't see it being viable commercially without the grant.
At the moment with the over 60 discount it's cheaper than Dover/Calais and for us if we are going down the west side of France it saves us 400 miles on a round trip over going via Dover so let's keep our fingers crossed.

If Brittany Ferries do take over the route the prices will shoot up. We used Newhaven - Dieppe in June for £118, Poole to Cherbourg with Brittany was almost £300. Same crossing time and nothing to choose between the ships.

We,re going on the late sailing September 24th for £75 one way which is fantastic I think , and thats not with the oap discount (Too young)
