I'm a wannabe
Hi we are just beginning to look for a Motorhome having been caravanners for a while and would appreciate advice on makes and models to find the "right" one first time (impossible we know)
We would like ideally a low profile with an end lounge (if at all possible with a drop down table in the middle of it though that is not a deal breaker), swiveling cab seats too. Sue tends to sleep in longer than Chris so he wants somewhere to sit and read while she slumbers hence the end lounge.
Under 6 m too for preference. 4 burners if poss though three will do (as we type this we remember how little we used more than two in the caravan) Separate oven and grill too if poss. good sized fridge with decent sized freezer would be a bonus too

We would tend to use sites mainly though occasional overnighters in aires etc so reasonable shower would be good though most washing up etc will be done on site facilities.

Budget around 20 to 22k

We have seen and liked Autocruise Starspirit and Eldiss Autoquest seem to have one in the range too. Any more suggestions?

We plan to hire for the Easter break next year possibly from HireaHymer as it is local which will give Sue a chance to drive one albeit LHD (she has driven panel vans so I think she will be fine)

We are in no real rush as the money comes available in Feb and we are quite happy to tent it for much of next season to wait for the right van

Thanks for your help

hello and welcome.

Just look around as many vans as you can.......and think very carefully about the layout that suits you.

The more you see the more refined your thoughts will become.

Good luck with your search..

Under 6m !! that may be the issue but I am sure there will be something out there, friends used to have a Swift 590, that had u lounge and short but not low profile.

As you specify a full oven / hob then your looking more at a British van as that is quite "us". The continental vans dont go in for ovens much.

Under 6m will be a challenge. 6.5 m or a bit longer will give you a lot more choice and layout is everything........ Best of luck with the search

I used to have an 06 plate Newstar - quite a nice van and reasonably well equipped. Only replaced it because I wanted something slightly different. Well worth a look.

Thanks so far everyone. Looks like we may have to rethink on the length. The reason we were looking at 6m were to do with the price on channel crossings. We would normally use the tunnel though sometimes ferries. How big is the cost difference when the van is above 6m?

unless the pricing structure has changed it's around £15 per meter or part thereof.

just checked on DFDS and P&O bookings and the standard DFDS length is 7mtrs

P&O is the same price for 6 and 7mtrs

so it wont cost any more if you go longer length

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.

We got it right first time , so its not impossible.
The advantage you have , like us , is that you have had caravans. So you know what layout suits you. Thats the most important thing.
Look around as many as you can. Find a model you like , then spend time looking on the net for ones for sale. Visit them , you cant smell a picture.
Boy do some hummmmm, even ones that are on forecourts. Foisty , damp , dog and fags. Covered up with air fresheners.
Our budget soon upped by an extra 10k.

We love our motorhome , and shall keep it for the foreseeable future. Our last one will be a panel van conversion , which Ralph will do . Before we retire.

Welcome to motorhome fun BTW:thumb:

For what you are looking for and the layout you require, I think the Globebus i-1 would fit the bill perfectly with the rear lounge.

A class, but only 20 feet in length, End lounge with dinette in the middle and pull down overcab. Plenty of space in a small bodied van.

Only down side I can see is if you are travelling with kids, the rear lounge is a little hidden if you wanted to keep and eye on them!
