Hi

Picking up my first Motorhome Wed , being a complete newbie to motorhomeing , information and tips on the forum has been great. Although i have zero experience at the moment I do feel more confident thanks to you guy's

? Planning our trips, there seems to be various types of sites cc/ccc/wild camping/stopovers etc.

I want my motorhoming to be as relaxed as posible and dont want to be trawling through different books ( besides would cost a fortune to buy them all). It would be great to be able to pop a disk into my laptop and get these various sites and info. I know there is a dvd out there Vicarious Books Motorhome, Caravan & Camping Book Specialist, aires guides and campsite guides from Europe ACSI, France Passion, All The Aires, Camperstop Europe, Go Motorhoming not sure how may types of sites this gives.

Be interested to know what you guy's do ?

Regards

Hi Sinbad1,

i'v only bought the aires guide(book) but it is excellent value.

i'm sure someone will be along soon to persuade you to buy all sorts of 'vicarious' books/discs.

i believe all the reviewed sites are actually used and tested so the info is very accurate and up to date.

Have a look <<HERE>> for an idea of whats included.

Also for pub stopovers <<HERE>> very useful for the odd night.

It is possible to download poi's and load them into autoroute or similar mapping program or download to a GPS. Personally I always wildcamp so laybys, woods, industrial estates, seafronts, anyplace but a site, hee hee. Just heave to someplace safe and out of the way then drop anchor. Enjoy getting to know your van.

thanks for your input the aires book is one i see recomended a lot here quite a lot so will probably purchase that one .

i have found an interactive site which gives all the types of sites http://************************/modules.php?name=Campsites&file=map
and although i can access this site provided i could access the internet, would be nice to have a interactive disk to do this.

How much have you just spent on a MH ?
How much is fuel ?

Now, how much is a book :)

The ACSI book plus disk is essential for Europe - no use in UK.

I'd add £25 for the 2 Caravan Club European sites books. Many more sites than ACSI.

The trouble with DVD based is convenience. You get somewhere, say "don't like that" then your navigator has to fire up a laptop. Books are instant on and you can write on them.

So that's my opinion, computers good for planning, books when on the move. And I'm not an old luddite, I write computer software for a living.

As you say a pc is an good tool for planning a route and finding info on various sites ,
if i have a searchable database on my laptop that included all the cc/ccc/stop over/pub stops ect. I fail to see how books would do this any quicker.
However, books have there place ;but not for me .

Money's not an issue here just like to make life simple

There's also here if you can get on line:

The UK Camp Site for Tent and Caravan Campers in the UK

Not sure the reviews are all that meaningful - read a few and you'll see what I mean . They often seem to be talking about different places - hmmm maybe they are:Doh:

Join either the CC or C&CC for the 5 van sites but more importantly for the ferry discounts ! also use France passion for the free sites (google for more info!) as for the aires book i stop driving at 4.00pm and wherever that is i look for the nearest village (France that is !) there is always either an aire or a car park ! :thumb:

Thanks for your reply and info there is some negative feedback for the CC and wether its worth joining not sure about the C&CC ;but wll check them out . Sounds like finding a stopover in france wont be a problem , Probably wont use them as have relatives over there( or maybe not depending how adventurous we are this year).
