NEWBIE.....just about to buy a motorhome on eBay and could do with some advice (1 Viewer)

Thinking of buying fiat, mclouis 264, 2003, 18,753 miles on clock, does anybody know of any reasons why I should avoid this motorhome? I was told they suffer from damp but the owner says "no dfamp". The are asking 19,000 for it. HELP!!!!!

Just be aware there are a lot of scams on eBay. Don't part with any money until you have the vehicle physically in front of you. However, typical scams involve a vehicle at a price too good to be true which may not be the case here.

Agree with everyone else, but another slant at the op is that a friend of ours has one that had been in an accident and much less money than this one and four years newer, and he has been all over Europe a time or two in it and no complaints at all.

I think you'd be surprised at the prices sold for. Yes there are some cheaper ones but a friend bought an Autocruise Pioneer last year ,2006, so 11 years old,private ,one owner 23k . 4k cheaper than identical one in a somerset dealer. He also sold earlier in year a 12 year old Compass at 33k . @ianthebuilder paid around 19k for his which was 16/17 years old ?

REF damp.. DONT take anyone's word for it, worth asking a mobile engineer to do a check..
Get a good one and it's money well spend, find a problem and you will only have lost £50 -£100 compared to the buying price and and repairs..

If you buy it, I'd insist on at least a years insurance backed unlimited claims up to the value of the MH warranty.

Good advice, thanks. The dealer has now come down to 15K with a years warrenty. Can you see anything else that I shoukd look out for, I will certainly take somebody with me to check it over.

Please don't let the excitement of buying a motorhome carry you away. Take a damp meter with you or ask to see the habitation cert. If none then insist on one.

Only a 2L engine as well, having owned a very nice but underpowered van, I would advise caution, please do not rush into buying, ( mind you it has 200hp)
In my opinion you should be able to find a much better van than this for your money.
If you tell us your requirements I'm pretty sure someone on here can find summit better

If you click on midnorfolk the company on ebay selling it, their other cars look like they were photographed in a car park, only been a member on ebay since May 2017, I would be very careful buying from them.

It is the only Motorhome for sale from the company. I am not sure they would be in any position to rectify any faults. It seems to me that you are buying at dealer prices without dealer back up.
