Hi we are Chris and Vivien from Christchurch (latterly known as quake city!!) We're on the way to the UK in a few months to take delivery of a new Auto Trail Apache 632 from Elite Motorhomes in Banbury....A burning question for input/response right NOW..is where does everyone pitch in Edinburgh for the "Tattoo"? The campground websites all say.."no dates available or nothing available" to that effect. What gives? Suggestions welcome as were keen to confirm a place to park. thanks Chris

Hello Guys ,we did the Edinburgh Tattoo a few years ago and stayed on the Caravan Club site a bus ride away which was great but it was fully booked up for the tattoo and the fringe festival months ahead , If you are not members of any of the clubs then you wont have much chance of a nearby site ,the main ones are the Caravan and Motorhome club,and the Caravan and camping club.Also check out the UK Campers website that will give some good info.Good Luck.

We’ve stayed at at a site about 25 miles south of Edinburgh and used the bus to get to the tattoo. Sorry can’t remember the name of the site. Alternatively look for a site with a train station to get into the city.

Always nice to welcome people from NZ as we had a fantastic time there when we went in 2012.
The sites will either be booked up already or possibly not open yet!
There are two websites that might help while you are in the UK for free/wild camping.
If your buying from Elite can I suggest you stay somewhere close like Barnstones for your first night.

Welcome Chris and Vivien,
When we want to visit the Edinburgh Tattoo or the Fringe Festival(they run at the same time) we use the Camping & Caravan Club's Temporary Holiday Site on the Drum Estate, Edinburg between 3rd to 26th August 2018. You have to be a member of the C&CC to stay there but at £45 for the year it is worth it for the THS alone as they are roughly half the price of regular sites. Drum Estate is £8.50 per night whereas a regular sight in August would probably cost about £20+ per night. You cannot book most THS and those that you can say so in the brochure.

If you want, there is a mobile contact number for the Steward of the THS at Drum Estate listed that you could ring or text to find out about availability. Whenever we have visited there has never been a problem with spaces.
