Hi all,
We have done all the usual new years eve stuff and find it a bit samey.
We would love to go to Scotland, maybe a good pub with music (squeeze boxes, open mike, accordions etc ).
Anybody done this,? any advice ? be lovely to park near and have a nice night/ few days.
cheers in advance. Brian and Cathy.

Many, but not all pubs, close early on New Year's eve to allow staff to go home and see in the New Year,

My only advice is to avoid large sites with several pitches occupied by regular 'locals'. Several years ago we went to one such site for Hogmanay. The site was lovely but on NYE we were put 'out the back' in the childs' area for our Haggis and Neeps. Afterwards we went into the bar to find a large number of 'posh' big tables all occupied by folk who knew each other from regular weekends on site. They had their company and were not interested in us. After a long queue at the bar we decided that we would be more comfortable back in the MH. As Hil said it is not nice being lonely in a crowd.

What say @Ralph-n-Bev ?
Any recommendations or advice?
We’ve been going up to Moffat for several years. Brodie’s bistro do a great New Years Eve meal , then we see the bells In in the square with all the locals.
Then back into Brodie’s gin bar .
Doubt you’d get in now though, or on the campsite . People usually book months in advance. But you never know, if you fancy it.
We aren’t into Jacobs table marquee/campsite room dos with quizzes n bingo etc at the best of times and wouldn’t fancy it on New Year’s Eve with a load of strangers . But Moffat campsite which we stay on do a New Year’s Eve do . Saying that we’ve never gone to it. So don’t know what they do there.
It’s suposed to be good , if you like that sort of thing, so we’ve heard from other campers on the site. Lots go Year after year.
We’d rather stay in if not going out for a nice meal. Or be on a deserted Scottish beach or valley just us two plenty booze and yummy food.

Loch Ness Shores site hold a music event along the lines you describe on Hogmanay. It is likely to be booked up by now, but you could phone them to check.
It's a full facility CCC affiliated site, very modern facilities and friendly couple who own and run it.

You could always organise a FUN group up there in the nether regions. Then you could guarantee being part of the 'in' crowd.
The NYE we have attended with 'FUN' in the warmer parts (England) have always been great FUN. So?

Our village Belford Northumberland so nearly Scotland has a great campsite next to a farm shop that does lovely New year meals followed by torch light parade through village with pipe band to a great firework display. The village hotel and 2 pubs have a great atmosphere as well.

Would recommend Biggar in Lanarkshire, they have a site which is about a 10 minute walk from town center. We did it last year and they have pipe bands playing and a lantern procession before lighting a massive bonfire on the high street, after the bells the bands continue to play. All the pubs are busy and if you want a meal you'll need to book now, we'd recommend the crown.

Keep meaning to return to Biggar. In the 90's had an old tourer static on that campsite. Happy memories of weekends and holidays with my girls. No EHU, gaslight and portoloo in a cupboard. We were right next to play park and toilet block that golfers used. Happy days.

Thanks all, some great ideas. I will see what Cathy says

We can't manage Loch Ness Shores this year because of family commitments otherwise we would be there. Had a couple of fantastic Hogmanay stays there.

The site won't have changed much apart from no statics and has hook up, it has very clean bu basic facilities but we love it for a night or two. It's handy for the town and great for walking the dog, the site now has a boating pond, tennis courts and putting for use in the summer. The council own it so price isn't to bad either.

Monzer wrote , Yes everyone will be struggling to find a drink in Scotland on New Years Eve

We have been to many "Hogmany" parties in pubs, hotels and friends whilst up north, never ever had a problem getting drinks anywhere except in an Aberdonians house they are so tight lol !!! Hope all have a Guid Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year !!

When I lived in Inverness many years ago the pubs used to close very very early as has been said earlier to allow staff to go and celebrate the New year, there were a few pubs that had private party’s

Had that stuff in the 90s. Rowing boats and Pedalos. Think I still have the toilet block key. The puppet theatre was great as well.
