Just saw 3 newly listed VW's on Autotrader for this staggering amount

Volkswagen Transporter

2021 (21 reg)

T6.1 t6 TDI 150ps DSG AURORA EXCLUSIVE HLN CAMPERVAN 4 BERTH

£72,490

They must have increased by nearly 20K...............

Inclusive of VW Scene Tax.

We used to think that £50k was a lot for a new VW camper but that was more than 10 years ago. I reckon they might yet breach the £100k barrier. The finance costs for new Californias is staggering. Who pays £800+ pcm ... ? Somebody must be.

People will pay because they are fashionable vehicles.. but £72,000 for Day/weekend van is just ridiculous.

They are a ridiculous price and you are paying extra for the VW cult following.
For young families who are into the camping lifestyle, who cant afford a car and caravan/motorhome they are ideal.
They also suffer the least depreciation of any new motor on the road.

There's a 69 plate Californian on at £79,950 !

It is not just VW's. The price of all campervans/motorhomes is currently much too high.
For example - we purchased a NEW Elddis Accordo in Dec 2016 for £37,995-00.
The same dealer now has a 2016 Accordo (now 5 years old) for sale at £41,995-00!!!!!!!
Surely the bubble must burst soon. I cant see how this can continue.

It ain't gonna burst this year.

I've never seen before so many new or nearly new mh and caravans on CAMC sites or on the roads.

£1,700 plus bed building cost

doubles as a 7 seat people carrier.

Fridge
Twin sunroofs
Front and rear a/c
Toilet tucks under beds.

Add a roof box and a drive away awning. Bush bash bosh.

Sold our 2019 VW Beach last yr, depreciation zero, wasn't even serviced.
Build quality outstanding, brilliant to drive, and had what a PVC/ motorhome will never have, it was 'cool' with the kids.
Always made us smile and had a great following and importantly a nationwide dealer network.
I do miss the VW and the fellow owners and still look at the VW California Club forum occasionally.
Although i'm really happy with our Hymer Grand Canyon S if VW made a similar size vehicle with roof tent i would be seriously tempted.

I have a different experiences with VW T5’s. As have a lot of my friends. Nightmare vehicles from new. I had two . Shocking

My son has a VW T5 auto bought new in 2015. Had to have the gearbox removed and dismantled in order to replace the splined sockets that the drive shafts fit in to. Not enough grease in the sockets from the factory caused the splines to round off causing traction issues.
This is a design problem which the manual gearbox doesn't suffer from. VW are aware but not interested. I wonder if it's been changed in the T6 design...I doubt it.

Let’s not mention the California roof rusting issue, got rid of my Cali 4 motion when I discovered it needed a new roof after only 12 months from new , which was just after I had a new turbo fitted under warranty.
Which was after a week spent in Croyde surrounded by all my gear as we couldn’t use the upstairs bed due to it being too windy to open the roof.
Still see new oceans with an elastic band around the roof in order to prevent the bellows being pulled into the scissor mechanism.
Well worth the money

Not one to defend VW, newer T6 roof's automatically fold in as on my new Hymer.
Never had any problems with mine, absolutely loved it.
