Hi All

Really stupid question. Has my motorhome updated and dont know where to put the new VIN plate.

Do I put it in the engine bay and have 3 of them, the original, the converter then the new one. Do I remove anything.

Any help for what is likely any idiotic question would be greatly appreciated

I took mine off and put the new plate which avoids any confusion about which one is current, not got the van now but still have the plate in the garage somewhere.

I added mine to the other two. Best to leave all plates on as it shows the conversion / upgrade process.

Thanks everyone. If only the DVLA had been as efficient as you lot!

I assume you are talking about the weight plate as a vin plate can't be changed legally it's the identity of the vehicle. :D

A new weight plate does not have to be fixed next to the old. Common place to fix it is inside the drivers footwell. You must not remove the old one.

For the plate to be legal it must have FULL details.... Chassis No, weights etc
Doesn't matter who issues it, original factory, second stage converter (chassis), final stage converter (body builder)
VIN plate includes all details, even a paint code, not just the identity.

That's illegal you have to leave the old one on.

Sorry Lenny , i need to know that one too . I had my van replated a couple of years back , but i never fitted the new plate , as i never needed the extra weight . That could change shortly when the bike goes on the back ! .

The vehicle will be on register as what it 'was and now what it is'..The vin plate replacement/add on , is a 'visual' for any possibility of a stop check etc.However... It does not mean it is the correct one for the vehicle and also it does not mean it has the correct specs for the vehicle it is on ...They are the easiest to replace in a stolen vehicle .
Your truck / car will have a few other places that confirm its originality . The vin plate is only one of them.

Agreed, possible locations are front corner of dash viewed through windscreen or drivers footwell stamped on chassis viewed through a removable panel/bung and those will only have the vehicle chassis number.

The actual 17 digit VIN number will surely be stamped into the structure, the plates must show the same number plus the current weights, capacities and other specification details. When it comes to identifying the vehicle the stamped in number is the most relevant as plates can always be faked.
As for a re-issued specification plate, surely only the current one to is valid.
