Just been reading about the new rates for vehicles registered after 1st April 2017 (announced in the budget 2015) which I assume will apply to motorhomes as well as cars. Some of the new rates look horrendous for vehicles over £40000 as even new Euro6 130bhp Boxers and the like push out 154 gm/ km which puts them in the 3rd duty band and for many will be on £40000+ vehicles which incur a further surcharge above the standard rate for 5 years. Am I correct it would be £500 first year and then £140 per year with a £310 surcharge each year for 5 years. I realise it is only for new vehicles and NOT existing vehicles. Have I got it right or have I misinterpreted the figures?

MH are not affected as there is normally not any CO2 info published by the converter so will continue to be classed as private light/heavy goods...

There are a few threads on the forum about this so if you have a search they should pop up,

What @MichaelT says above, but with the proviso that some vehicles might not be classed as conversions (as in a modified base vehicles), so could in theory have a CO2 emission figure on their documentation. I'm thinking in terms of the smaller purpose-built VW type vehicles rather than full-blown MHs based on Fiats, Peugeots etc, . Definitely worth checking with a dealership beforehand if buying new after 31 March, until some definitive info is available.

This is right for coachbuilts but many professional van conversions do have the CO2 listed so may be affected...:( Worth checking with the manufacturer - Globecar & Westfalia do list it.

Just cover youself when ordering by insisting that it will only be purchased if there is no increase in tax rate & that coc /v5 doesn't show an emissions figure & if it does then you will expect the dealer to foot the additional 5 years increased duty.
