Monty Python! Classic. (y)

As the Pythons were all highly educated, as you would expect the Elderberry insult has a ring of truth.
If you smelt of Elderberries it implied you were an acholic, as early medieval strong beer was flavoured with elderberries to blunt the sharp taste.

The French reported at lot of the soldiers at Agincourt 'smelt of elderberries' (Once more unto the breach dear friends....)
I'm sure the Hamster insult will also have a medieval meaning in France as well.

Possibly, but hamsters were only discovered in 1839 so it may have been another rodent

UK passports have been made in France for a long time.
It would seem we have no competent printers who could beat the French on price.

The UK has one of the largest global printers of money and passports, De La Rue, obviously a French name ......

I know a good song about that school...... :whistle2:
Me too. The school was quite near to me in my teens and we used to date the girls and sing it after a few ciders.
It's here but very rude, so be warned.

Wasn't rodent a public school for genteel young ladies? Asking for a friend's niece ... (y) 😂

Steve

I was invited round to a cosy dinner with an ex Head Girl of Roedean. She was very genteel - till after the main course then she dragged me off to bed as the dessert. Well it would have been rude to spurn her hospitality wouldn't it?

Are you sure she wasn't at the other posh Ladies College at Cheltenham?
