Literally just picked it up from Grimsby in my mate's van today, rang the insurance company and got it added on to my policy with my other 3 bikes, well, 3 bikes and a scooter, taxed it online as well, going for a shakedown run tomorrow to see if I like it as I have never ridden one before!!

There is an extreme level of jealousy coming from the Bear tonight, what an absolute beauty!!!!

Dare I ask how many beer tokens it cost please?

Be careful when you kick that over, I have recently sold my Yam IT 490 and it was a bitch for kicking back:confused:
The twins are ok but the big singles do hurt if they get you:(

Loverly bike, I love the Yamaha 2t and have restored a few but not a DT

UPDATE,
Took it out for a spin this afternoon, fuelling all over the place, hesitant at low rpm and very poor idle/running on overrun as well, feels like a blocked or partially blocked pilot jet, so it seems a carb strip is in order, good job it's easy to get to.
Otherwise it is very light and flickable, the tyres make the handling feel very squidgy, lovely relaxed riding position, but a lot of vibrstion through the (low) seat and bars,
Time will tell if I take to it, otherwise I'm sure I will get my money back on it.

If it’s been standing for a while I expect the carbs might need a clean,
Have my RD ones ultra sonic cleaned only about £15 from the chap around the corner, a lot better than trying to clean them myself..

You are probably right, the seller was recovering from cancer treatments, so had not ridden it much, a carb strip is in order I think.

They were an awful bike, as most of the big 2 strokes were back then, almost impossible to get to run cleanly, and quite bad vibration too, the 175 was a lovely bike ( especially with 125 side panels on) but the 250 and 400 didnt get better for more cc.. but that was then, now , im jealous that you got such a lovely example, of what is a pretty rare bike, its size makes it ideal to go in a MH, and it will be ideal for dual sport use. Enjoy it.

The DT400 does vibrate a bit, mainly through the seat, but not too bad, the tyres make the handling interesting, (read squidgy), if the tyres weren't new, I'd swap them for some more road orientated ones, the engine starts and runs sweetly, after I had a play with the carb etc.
Talking of side panels, my recently acquired 1973 Yamaha RD 350 was a 250, and still has the 250 side panels on, but is now a 1mm overbored 350, with mild porting and carb mods, but standard exhausts, don't arf go well. Insured as a 350 though before anyone points this out.
Aaaaaah, the smell of 2 strokes!!

65cc kits on mopeds ,YB100 motors in FS1E frames, even did an AR50 Kawasaki with a KX80 gearbox in it, never went on the road on anything bigger though, got my car license and sacked off riding on the road, as i didnt need too, never got a bike license till i was well past 25, because you cant race, and ride on the road as well.

I grew up around a bunch of very good proddy racers, and tuners, so all the tricks of LC racing were pretty well known, and it made for some quick road bikes among the locals.

Looks pretty much the same as mine except for a few bits missing, mine has steel rims as well, but essentially a USA import like mine.

I thought it was at first glance, there are lots of them in the US, they seem to survive out there like they dont here.

I have a mate that brings stuff back, he posted 4 bikes for sale, one after the other, that i owned in the 80's in the order i owned them, which wasnt chronological. my criteria for 'old bikes' is that i cant have something i havent had before. Luckily i am poor with a small garage. That is already full.
