just get out and do it, don't forget fresh water take stuff from home till you know if you want separate for the van.
A site near a town to start with is good, then you can buy or borrow that corkscrew or can opener (things we have most been asked to lend) or buy anything you really must have.

When you get the van spend a night in it on your drive or very close to home. Then if it doesn't go quite right, or you "need" something you haven't far to go. I second the tip not to start buying things until you know you need them - raid the cupboards at home. Everybody has a garage/shed half full of "must-have stuff" that has only been used once!

Basic extras to consider; some way to refill the water tank (hose, watering can); 25m hookup cable if you intend to stop on sites; toilet fluid (we use Tesco bio washing liquid but you can now get similar capsules).
