Looking
Hi,

Simon & Ruby here from Pembrokeshire, Wales.

We will be looking for our first motorhome shortly, so will be looking for some experienced advice on what we might want to get.

Thanks in advance.

Take your time choosing a new van. Decide what you want to do with the van. Do you want loads of seats for social occasions? Do you want to make your bed up every night? If you do, chances are the van will be cheaper. How much do you want to carry? A big garage can be excellent but means compromises on the internal layout. Are you intending on spending most of your time on Campsites. This could mean you may not need a solar panel or re-fillable gas bottles. Does the van have an awning? Many vans do not have them fitted as standard.
Bottom line is learn as much about what you want the van to do balanced against what you can afford and if it is second-hand never buy a van with even an inkling of damp.

Thanks.

From the research we have done and what we think would suit our needs, at the moment we are thinking Hymer B544, but need to go and actually see one and some other alternatives.

Probably get a good discount due to present conditions. After all you can’t use it properly for a few months.

You are looking at a good marque. Many people believe that buying continental vans offer better build quality, a decision you must make for yourself. If you intend touring mainly outside the UK, then the habitation door being on the 'wrong' side will not be a problem. Other differences can include less enthusiasm from the makers to include a cooker, although when made for the British market, they do sometimes include an oven.
