Greetings from George and Karen, we are new to motorhomes but have spent most of our lives camping at home and in Europe. We had a simple van spec, fixed double bed with no need for faffing around at bed time, a loo and shower ( I appreciate that many don’t want these items as they only stay on fully equipped sites) and of course a garage space and somewhere to cook. And it should only be about 7m long and be at the lower end of the price spectrum.
We eventually opted for a Mclouis 367 (Auto Sleeper group) with an island bed, it met the basic spec. We picked it up after lockdown eased in July and have only had one short trip to the Peak District for a couple of days.
Problems occurred when we didn’t realise the gas bottle hose had a button that needs to be pressed to get the hob going and we struggled to get the water heater working. The latter problem turned out to be the microswitch needing to be tweaked to signal that window was closed.
So far we have used double sided tape to stick hooks around the van so we can dry wet gear over the shower tray and hang towels and coats etc. We have just fitted a twin cylinder Gaslow system with automatic changeover valve. This was a straightforward addition which cost a fortune (£695) but will have a reasonable payback, our first refill of two 11kg cylinders was £26. And we have managed to get a spare wheel which I believe is essential especially for travel in France where you have to replace both tyres on an axle if you have a puncture in one.
Now looking for a weather window for a longer trip in the UK.
