Hello. Finally got around to joining. Relatively new to MH travel after 25 years under canvas (kids finally left home so time for some comfort :D). Bought first MH in Nov 2015 from a family friend and just got back from 10 weeks in Scandinavia and the Baltic states and are totally hooked. Downsizing next year from the coach build to a new van conversion ready for the next 15 years of travel.
Looking forward to reading about everyone's experiences.

Hello and welcome.

May I ask your reasons for downsizing?

HI. Yes of course. We very much enjoy wild camping and found, on occasion, that the MH we had, a Laika Ecovip, was a bit big for stealth camping in some of the Baltic villages. The Laika was great in many other ways - it had a full garage which carried a scooter but we only used it once in Bergen. It was plated at 3850kg and was quite high. The better half didn't like driving it because it tended to get affected by wind and passing large vehicles. We spent a bit of time looking at what worked on the trip and what we could compromise on. As it's just the two of us we have gone for a large Van Conversion. Also both children will be able to drive this one as its under 3500kg. We only had a MH for two years but spent three weeks in Scotland and 10 weeks touring Northern Europe (plus two trips to the Alps for cycling events /Tour de France) so hopefully we know we can downsize and not regret the loss of space. The Laika had fixed seats at the front which didn't form part of the lounge so we reckon we could manage with the new layout in the van conversion without too much compromising - time will tell......

We decided on a Carthago Malibu 640 LE. When we were in Latvia we met an American couple doing a 12 month trip in a Weinsberg 640 so we had a good chat with them about the practicality of the van conversion over the coat build. When we got back we spent a fair amount of time looking at what was around and narrowed the list down to three; Globecar, Weinsberg and Carthago. We went to the NEC in October and spent all day looking at these three vans, and a couple of others just to make sure. In the end it came down to the slightly different layout of the Malibu especially with the bathroom area. It's all a compromise but we worked out we spent most of our time in the front driving between places or parked up exploring. We don't feel like we need a lot of space inside for two and the fixed beds in the back does give us some space for "me" time.

Hi and welcome, we recently downsized to a Globecar Campscout 636 and have not looked back, the Malibu is a good van so enjoy your Malibu when you get it.

John.
