Searching eBay is a right pain but it’s paid off loads of times for me, don’t just think lock spring, they may be used in other applications.

Make your own with a bit of piano wire (available online) Check out McMaster Carr's catalogue for a similar one and use the spec they provide ?

3 years of weekending with the odd month here and there.
Input into google the length and diameter of the spring plus the thickness of the wire it’s made from (a Vernier gauge will tell you) and you’ll get suppliers. It’ll be just pennies. CORRECTION: it’ll be a couple of quid:censored:.

I have seen posts on here where people have made springs in similar circumstances. May be worth doing a search.
Why not post a pic of the spring and sizes, we may have a secret spring expert (y) Quite a few companies here in the Black country.. :)

I bought some piano wire and with the help of some pliers, some patience and the old spring formed a replacement. It was still OK 5 years later when I sold the van.

As said above just search for spring wire on Ebay and make your own. Not too difficult to form the large circle part around a piece of pipe of the correct diameter, then use pliers or a vice to bend the right angles on the 2 legs.

On the face of it, it does not look to hard to replicate if you have the original as a pattern.

"piano wire" is not hard to come by?.

Just as an aside, why not straighten that coil that's broken and bend it to shape. Might work or might snap but may get you going again until you sort a proper fix ?

Why not just Google 'Caravan breakers'? There were loads of them when I was looking for a replacement window for my m/h.
Then take the old one as a pattern or phone with the lock details. It'll only cost a couple of quid to post one to you.

Hi colyboy! Apologies for digging up an old thread from 2019, but we're currently in the same position that you were in with a broken Hymer Habitation Door lock. We had the whole mechanism replaced in July and the new one has broken already! ☹

I just wondered how you had managed to fix the lock - did you make your own replacement spring, or did you manage to find a stockist?

Many thanks in advance! 😊

Wow Colyboy, that's fantastic, thanks so much for this info! We are going to call into Travelworld tomorrow as we'll be heading back up from the SW to the NE!

As a bit of a (positive) update, we decided to take a look at the insides of the lock mechanism thus morning and carefully removed the plastic cover. In actual fact, all the springs appearef to be located correctly and none appeared to have been dislodged....

However, it gave us the chance to look at the catch and we clicked it back into place / reset it's location, and then gave it another try, and bingo it was working again!! 👍 We were so pleased because we're off again next week for our next trip, so the thought of having the habitation door out of commission wasn't too promising, so a huge sigh of relief all around!

However, now we've taken a good look at the insides of the lock, I think we would have confidence changing the spring if necessary in the future, so we'll stop by Travelworld tomorrow to buy a couple of spare springs to put into the toolbox!

Thanks again for your fantastic reply with all the information!

😊🏆

That would be under guarantee then

Hi Gus-Lopez! Thanks very much for your reply! It hadn't occurred to us that the new lock would be covered by a guarantee, so thanks very much for suggesting that! 👍

As per my update above, we've had a look at the insides of the lock today and reset it and all appears to be ok now, which we're really pleased about! We're going to stop by tomorrow at Travelworld to get a couple of spare springs in case we need then in the future.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply!! 😊
