There was another thread running about this and as far as I can remember nothing had been ratified at that time, I’ll try and find it.

Though the idea is to reduce accidents, it might have the opposite effect by causing more overtaking. French drivers appear to be trained to only overtake on blind bends, as often I have been followed by a french car for many kilometres of straight empty road, only to be overtaken on the first bend.

The sceptical are seeing it as an opportune and cynical rise in revenue from the speed cameras, too. It's going to make those long runs between towns on those lovely, open traffic-free roads in France seem very much longer.....:(

Also from twitter today:

Among other road safety measures announced in France yesterday, requirement to carry disposable breathalyser in car will be dropped from 1 July. Always a bit of a farce, as it was a requirement, but there was no sanction (fine or points) if you were stopped without one.

Perhaps @yodeli (or other French residents) could confirm.

ps - in English this time for @Chris ;)

It is still not confirmed, if it goes ahead I've been unable to find out if over 3.5t reduces to 70kph. If it does it's going to make journies a bit slow as we don't do tolls. On the plus side it could push more cars & lorries onto the autoroutes.

I hope they get around to telling the French lorry drivers, the number of times I have been pushed by heavies intent on doing 100k in 80k areas is unbelievable they just don't seem to recognise any limits

Drop me a pm if you can... tried to send you one but it's locked down
Don't want to clog up this useful thread with personal stuff ;)
Sorry Funsters for those "personnal stuff" but Graham, it says "you may not have a conversation with xgx". So I think you might have ticked a box saying you don't want PMs. Check it !

Well I must say you're quite right on this one. I nearly end in the ditch when arriving in Rambouillet on the N10. Several lorries came the other way and I thought I would not survive them!
