Here is a thought now we are taxed as a luxury car and not as a Motorhome. So if carparks have a Motorhome restriction it can no longer apply as the government now say we a luxury car. Therefore we cannot be camping just parking. It’s just an interesting thought.

Hmmmmmm! good luck with that???

Unfortunately under 3500kg you've always been a passenger car.

On that basis, we've always been allowed to park, then.

Other threads in the past have claimed that bye-laws prohibiting motorhome parking are invalid. The new tax regime seems to add weight to that claim, if the DVLA makes no distinction between a car and a sub-3.5kg motorhome.

Sleeping in a vehicle is another thing entirely of course.

There are numerous classifications for Motorhomes depending what it's for.
Road tax is diesel or petrol car, (used to be PLG)
MOT is class 4...passenger car
Registration is Motorhome
Registration classification is M1.. Special purpose vehicle.

I believe councils have to have by-laws approved by central government and if approved become law so if a by-law says no motorhomes its law just as by-laws prevent dog walkers on beach's or alcohol on certain streets.
If car parks are private the landowner has the final say.

So it comes down to the definition of a 'motorhome'. Does that include a VW T5, a PVC, an A class, a C class, a Transit with a matress in the back, etc. Logically it would be what appears on the V5. Mine says 'moter caravan', I think.

Mine says 'moter caravan',
They all say 'motor caravan' .
As far as DVLA are concerned, for registration purposes, there's no such thing as a motorhome.
And a transit with a mattress in the back would never qualify as a motorhome/motorcaravan so that would not be excluded unless vans where also excluded
