Has been announced that the private radar cars are to be deployed in Correze from Monday so anyone passing through be aware . Thinking of folks using the A20 in Particular . It seems they have been in use in Haute Vienne for some time .

I read that in a French online magazine about 6 months ago. I think it's a great way of getting people to drive sensibly as they don't know who's watching them. I know that they were testing roadside cameras which can catch vehicles speeding going either way but also catches people tailgating, jumping red lights, driving without seatbelts and without tax or mot's. If it makes the roads safer I'm all for it. (y)

Set my speed limiter 3kph below the limit and see how long a queue i can create.
sensible development, unless you are in a hurry on a safe open bit of road with no hazards.

I think that was then announced as not being true, it was just a speed camera not able to check the other stuff from memory.

Also as it’s a camera I don’t think they are now able to fine us for camera offences only where they physically stop you at the time.

“NEW SUPER-RADARS NOT SO SUPER

At the end of 2016 the French government announced the introduction of the Mesta-Fusion 2, or ‘turret’ radars, that were said to be able to detect numerous motoring infringements including using a phone, not wearing a seat belt, not having insurance, no MOT as well as recording vehicle speeds. It now turns out that these claims were somewhat exaggerated & the government has just revealed that the ‘turret’ radars can at present only be used to record speeding vehicles.“

Thèse are cars patrolling with cameras on board .

Do they physically stop you and issue fine, or is it like the UK vans, where it is person with camera recording the offence and then sends you a ticket?

The one's we've been seeing this trip look like low white concrete blocks. No other marking at all.

Best ones are the ones that display the registration numbers of speeding cars on the signs above the carriageway …

Yes ... good ... but no fine with those. It's just a warning!

spitfire Arrggg.... will be on the A10 on wednesday the 27th with ...mum driving now and then (well I hope only now and then!! I don't want her driving all the way, otherwise if I don't die in a car crash , I'll probably have a heart attack .. .. not a nice idea on my birthday)

I often over speed with my Kangoo, mainly because my Skoda makes noise when I go fast and so I slow down, but both ways if we take my Kangoo or her Laguna, I won't hear the engine that well, and I don't spend all the time looking at the dash board. I hope I won't get caught! On the other hand I would not mind Mum being caught... she could simply loose her licence... Oh... what a relief...! Sorry... can't help thinking so! :gum:

Evolis speed warning signs can also see in the reverse direction to the display but do not of course issue tickets.
As an aside when you see COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH groups out and about until now if caught you got a warning letter.
From now in many areas ANPR cameras and full time police are being randomly embedded in the groups so do not assume you will not get a ticket. 10% +2mph over is the threshold.

They're streamlined and very low, at least the ones I saw near Bergerac are, and also somewhere else, can't remember where. Anyway, I passed one last July, I was definitely just over, was expecting a fine, but it never arrived. Didn't see a flash either. TBH, I'm much more careful, especially on the RN10/910, having received a couple of fines. But they are so sneeky where they put them. Especially on downhill stretches, hidden behind contours. One of the fines was for 5 kph over the 80, and a fair distance along dual carriage way, just before the 110 kph sign. Where there seemed no reason why it was so restricted. Passed the same place this time, it was no longer there. I hope!
