Rip off France:)

I struggle to understand how it can be seen as a rip off? The motorways in France are in considerably better condition than here in the south of England, the food served in their motoway services can actually be eaten and there's many more services or rest places per mile.

Try the M20 from Eurotunnel towards the M25, the inside lane is diabolical, more holes than a malteser!

You have a choice though, use the non-peage even slower now roads. :)

Don't take life too seriously, no-one gets out alive!:)

My post was purely humour, as everytime something is more expensive in the UK we get someone posting 'rip off Britain'

Those ex newscaster old biddies have a lot to answer for! :)

Rip off France:)
I really dont get it anyway. Why would you want to live in a country thats full of French people.
Having said that, the inside lane mentioned makes the roads on Sicily look good.

when we are on holiday in the camper in France we try to avoid the peage's.But when we visit our friends who have a Farm near Reims we use the peage all the way from Calais.I know it isn't cheap but can usually use the cruise control on my car and doing the nr 200 miles isn't a problem!Certainly nowhere near the hassle on the M25!!

We never use toll roads either and the new 80km/h limits don’t really bother me, you get used to it and use less fuel
There is talk of the 80 limit being withdrawn soon but there are still arguments about if it cut accidents or not.
It doesn’t seem to bother most French drivers though, they will try to overtake you whatever speed you are doing.

Is hard to compare because the figures quoted are classe 1 but Ive been comparing the ASFA site with what I paid on the A63 a couple of weeks ago and it seems about the same or even slightly cheaper and I dodged the easy two.

It does bother many French greatly, many see it as an erosion of their personal rights. Reduction in deaths "that's propaganda" state my friends.

I asked French friends of their habit of coming up close behind and then pulling out at the last minute to overtake, I'm sure many of you have experienced this, the reason .... this is how they are taught to drive. It is in their training and the reasoning, is that the less time you spend on the other side of the road, the safer you are, they are advised.

Speeding is seen almost as a right, the speed limits are for others less capable, as I said to my friends, "you never respected the 90kph limit so you certainly won't respect the 80kph" ... he smiled. They see we Brits as rather strange for our respect of the limits.

We live in the sticks and the chance of seeing a Gendarme is rare, speed cameras come out normally on the first few days of spring when it's neither too hot nor too cold for the Gendarmes to stand outside.

@obanvanman - I cannot imagine that ivingin a country full of French people is worse than living in one infested with Scots, but each to his own as they say.

Its a rip off for those who HAVE to use the roads, such as trucks/lorries etc when they are not allowed to use some of the non-motorway roads so have no choice.

Who, or what, stops them using Motorways ?
In some places there are notices that commercial vehicles over certain weight MUST use the motorways round the towns and some other places ... can't remember which ones they were but we certainly saw a few coming back up from Spain in January, I remember it as we were wondering how much it must cost for the hauliers to have to use them.

Personally I think it's quite reasonable to keep HGVs away from towns and villiages unless they are making a delivery. They don't pay the peage charge, their owners or customers do, us when we shop!

... but if the 'company' has to pay more ... then we all pay more ... but they do NOT have a choice about using them which was the point being raised by you. :D

You must drive on different toll roads to me in France. I have never seen any of them offering any type of hot food/restaurant or cafe, McD's or anything. Only food available was pre-`prepared sandwiches , baguettes ,etc, Only drinks from vending machines & the 'coffee' is undrinkable:sick::sicker: Once leaving spain at La Jonquera we have to wait until entering Germany at Mulhouse to get a decent meal at the first services.

but there are still arguments about if it cut accidents or not.
It doesn't when the problem has always been drinking.

I think you will find they are still cheaper per km than Spain.
:party2::party2::party2::party2::party2::party2::party2::party2::party2:

the spanish ones I find, when I have to use them, are far cheaper + Mh under 3,5t , 2 axle & no double wheels = car.

Absolutely right. Distance from Calais to Spanish border roughly equal to French border to Javea.

Toll charges per my tag account:

Motorway all the way in France: €120
Using N 10 Poitiers - Bordeaux. €58

Donostia to Javea. €29

We travel to Montendre at least three times a year, just got back this week was there for new years eve and all of January, always use tolls there and back, great motorways and if you travel sat and sun, not very busy(y) below is what i pay going down and the same again coming back, that's towing a smart car on twin axle trailer.
