No longer FLTs, but 'Dirty Campers' according to this gem of an article 3-days ago in the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald:

Having read the article I think "Dirty campers" is a mild description.

FLTs as understood here don't behave like this.

I wish there were a way to stop ‘dirty campers’ whilst allowing considerate FLTs to continue enjoying our countryside.

There already is. Provide the means for others to report unacceptable behaviour easily, with photographic evidence if available. Prosecute those where evidence is sufficiently strong and fine them heavily if found guilty.

Just don’t destroy the enjoyment of every motorhomer for the sins of the very few who despoil our beautiful areas.

Interesting to see that the idea of creating aires is starting to be tabled at these council meetings. A small step in the right direction maybe?

They say about “cars” parking over night, surly they refer to these rather then the motorhomes, even the council’s must know that motorhomes have there own toilets and it’s the people in the cars that are leaving waste around, the last time I looked cars don’t have bogs....

It’s wonderful to see progress, but only as long as we can still find the beautiful, lonely, wild places without being criminalised.

This seems to refer to people camping from cars, presumably in tents. I am starting to see more single people wandering around the country loaded with backpacks looking for somewhere to pitch their tents. Also more people living in cars. The deteriorating economic crisis is most likely to create more of these people. Maybe we should start creating facilities for these people. However the example given here is most likely to be people looking for a cheap holiday.

We have been to the Highlands twice this year. We didn’t see much evidence of dirty camping, at least not by motorhomers. We did see lots of people sleeping overnight in cars in places with no toilets, also remains of campfires in a lot of places.

Every lay-by and car park for many miles South of Ullapool had the following sign, with mentioned utensil attached

Absolutely, motorhomers, caravanners and campers alike should actively take the opportunity to help and support these councils to fix the the problem.

While I understand the sentiment, I firmly believe that if motorhomers want an 'Aire' type solution inthe UK, then we need to work with the councils to help fix the problems they are faced with. If that means Aires with toilets (and maybe water) for those without onboard facilities, we should be encouraging and supporting that solution, not explaining that it 'can't be us making the mess'.
Just placing the blame onto another group is counter-productive, it will simply result in councils issuing a mass ban.
