Have you seen the the new motorhome road tax increases and been able to work them out?

What I have read and can’t really understand that there are some big increases aimed at motorhomes . Motorhomes of 3500 and below seem to be going to be hit hardest. Plus I think they are going to hammer MH’s of a list price of over £40000 + will taxed more. But don’t take my word as I have a job sorting and understand what the rates will be. Please don’t take my observations as correct I hope I am wrong!

You haven't by any chance read something that relates to the changes that came in back end of 2019 and early 2020 which were fairly quickly rescinded. They were along the lines you are talking about ?

Just taxed our 4.5 tonne van at the start of march, £245 ?, but it's better than the £570 last year.

Why so much, just done our 4.5t £165.

Were you caught in the 6 month luxury tax period of 2019 - 2020?
Yes, still doesn't explain the £245.

Are you sure you've paid for 12 months and not 6 months? For 2024/25 the rate for 6 months is £255 so could've been £245 when paid in March before it went up.

I know that, I've been trying for the last 30 minutes to find historical rates but it's like pulling teeth! Without knowing what year his MH is it's difficult to know if he's just taxed it wrongly (ie 6 months) or has finally got out of the 'black hole'.

Definitely 12 months( just checked on DVLA website), First time it's gone down since it was registered in 2020.

How's that happened? I thought it was at an enhanced rate until it was 6 years old, then reduced in the 7th year?

Slight tangent but I taxed my VX220 this week. Light weight sports car. Emissions satisfy all ULEZ conditions. Insured for only 3000 miles a year. Lots of those will be done in France and off public roads, on private tracks but...... £415!!!!!

I do love sitting smugly on the sidelines of all these 'road tax' threads (5 at last count) as there is no such in Poland. France is the same I believe.

Also no 'MOT' on my 'vintage-registered' MH

I may pay a bit more in insurance, but it does include Comprehensive in all of Balkans, Israel and Morocco. Why cannot UK insurers do that?
