We have seen a motor home we like but I'm trying hard not to get excited!
Out of curiosity while reading the thread on Abbey Wood, I put the VRM of our old and(possibly) new Motor homes in. I couldn't believe it.

The old van sailed through (3.5t), the new one (3.8t) is ok up to 2012.
Then we have to fit pollution abatement measures or a gas conversion.
Help please.
What does this mean?
We have 3 years of being able to use the M25 and visit London and then we fit a gas engine. Or avoid the Dartford side of the M25 and London altogether?
What is a gas conversion/ engine?
What are these pollution abatements?
The MH is a 2003 a class built on a fiat ducato.
Thanks for help,
Lucille

hi lucille,

a gas conversion is for petrol engines and allows it to burn LPG instead of/or petrol.

i beleive gas conversion on diesel engines have been tried with some success but arent widely available yet and as far as i can see wont be.

why it would suggest a gas conversion is beyond me as petrol engines arent affected by the LEZ.

hope this helps.

polution abatement is a special filter system in the exhaust and is a very expensive option and not available for all engines yet.

cheapest option is to avoid london.

Thanks, Pappajohn. It does help to explain the gas conversion. There must be others like us who will face this problem with a diesel conversion.

the ones i feel for are the motorhomers who actually live within the LEZ.

a new, compliant van. (but for how long before they move the goalposts again)

a petrol engined van. (see above)

storage outside the LEZ.

give it all up and buy a static somewhere.

fantastic set of options innit?

sites like abbeywood will become, in my opinion, practically caravans only as most m/h are diesel and i imagine most tuggers use petrol, not all of course.

often wondered if diesels hadnt become more and more popular a few years ago, if the LEZ would ever have been thought of?
or would it have been aimed at petrol cars.
