I wonder if all the hospitals over there know what it is? They might think you are offering them a library card. . I'll apply for one but still carry my EHIC while it is still valid. I know they recognise that.

A friend of mine has told me tonight that she was refused one as her EHIC was still valid.

Yes - that's what I understood would happen when it was publicised last year - our EHIC has another couple of years left on it so no need to do anything until it's closer to expiring.

Yes, mine got refused too as ive got a year left on EHIC.

Swmbo and myself got our GHIC cards today, applied back in December. They are valid in EU countries only at present and don't include Norway, Switzerland etc.
Valid for 5 years from the date you apply not when they finally get round to issuing them.
Very patriotic with the union flag design.

Applied for GHIC 6th Jan as EHIC would expire 9 Feb. New cards arrived 12 Feb. Good service.
