First year under our belt!
We've decided on Holmsley campsite in the New Forest for two or three nights in mid-September, then on to a site in South Devon for my 50th birthday on the 20th.

We would very much like a site with hook-up, toilets, showers etc., but within walking distance of a nice town/village and beaches. Does such a place exist?

We live in Bransgore a mile away from Holmsley which is a lovely site. Bring your bicycles if you cycle and visit Burley for a cream tea or lovely pubs. If you go to Bransgore the Crown is good for food too.
Not quite Devon but http://www.newlandsholidays.co.uk/ is a lovley site with a short walk into Charmouth and the beach. Bus rides to Lyme Regis and Bridport are a must too.

Hi sounds like a great plan(y)
we've stayed at one in Charmouth, can't remember the name of it sorry (there are a few) but it was right on the beach near to the car park and cafe. Looking on ukcampsite I think it could be seadown but it was all touring pitches when we stayed a few years ago.

Another one that was great was Bolberry House Farm in Hope Cove although not sure if that might be a bit too limited. You can walk down to the village off road.

Not long enough!
Try getting on without facilities and electric, as it opens up much nicer sites and places to stay, also cheaper as well. Enjoy :)

Seadown it is. It looks perfect; very close to the sea and much loveliness :)

Enjoy!

The New Forest is a real favourite of ours, we're booked into Longmeadow in Brockenhurst in October, it will be our 1st trip out after we've collected our moho:)

And an early Happy Birthday(y)

We're planning to head south later this month and over towards Dartmouth and Start Bay area.
We haven't been back there since the children were young......but had thought about a CL near Dartmouth and also Start Bay CC near Slapton. There are a couple of CLs in Black Awton as well, that might be worth a try.
We can thoroughly recommend the Start Bay Inn for the best fish and chips in the area (unless it's gone downhill):) Hopefully we'll get to the New Forest as well.

Thanks for the info on Hope Cove, it's many years since we were there, but sounds like a another good place to go back to when in south Devon later on(y)

Can't imagine it's changed much.....

Bolberry was a really nice site, two sisters ran it, there was no reception office, they would ride round the site several times a day in various cars with assorted dogs.... couldn't be more helpful and welcoming.

We really enjoyed it and Hope Cove was very nice.

My list of places to visit/revisit keeps getting longer:Smile:

South Devon eateries:-

Try the beachside cafe/restaurant at Salcombe called the Winking Prawn
Turtley Corn Mill just off the A38 at South Brent - Gastropub
The Ship Inn, Noss Mayo - Gastropub
Angels Tearoom, Babbacombe Downs, Torquay - cafe, breakfasts, cream teas, cakes, sandwiches, lunches

You ought to book any of these as they can be very busy as they are all good.

We will definitely need to go back to Dartmouth as we spent umpteen holidays there in different holiday cottages when the children were young. There were several great places for clotted cream teas, one was the Copper Kettle, (think it's on Morris Street) and the other was just up from the harbour. But it's been 14 years since we were there, so probably a lot has changed, it will also be strange going back on our own without the children:crying:
We will use the park 'n' ride bus and have a wander about and take a boat ride out to the castle(y)

:( Aw sorry to hear that, there are a few others in Charmouth, not sure if you use ukcampsite.co.uk, it will help to locate them.

Good luck

Think it's cos the kids are all back at school, there's usually a flurry straight after.

Brilliant! All those poor parents needing a holiday after their kids' holiday!

Think it's all the peeps who don't want to be out and about when the kids are off.

We have spent many hols at Black Knowl in the New Forest, can't believe how different the site is in term time - everybody is locked up with tv on
