In the Bournemouth Echo today it says that the control of 10 New Forest Campsites is likely to be taken over by the company that run the New Forest Show. No longer to be CAMC.
Edit….currently preferred choice but should be appointed in October.

Hi.
Hopefully be in Setthorns in about a week......... Lets hope it does not alter. 1. Seasonal pitches...Whats next.... Chalets ? Hope not,it will spoil it,so fingers crossed it stays as it is.

I hope it does change, Sethorns has become a traveler’s site at the upper section.

It was the C&CC who ran the CiTF sites, not CAMC.

Surprised, but perhaps not, that it is taking this long to select the new operator. Sethorns is the supposedly all year site yet you can't currently book it beyond end November. Most other CiTF sites are already closed for season with only Holmsley open till end October.

Seems to be a lot of conflict between environmental concerns wanting sites closed to protect wildlife, and the desire to provide camping for tourism. Even the "flagship" Hollands Wood is apparently wrong, but if it is the New Forest Showground operator, perhaps the showground site almost opposite would be seen as a partial duplicate. How many sites around Brockenhurst would one operator want to be running?

It's been on the cards for over a year I assume the C&CC will be running them until next season.

So we will probably lose our discount and what's the betting prices will go up.

Looked like that last we were there but it's not traveller's just long term pitches but no apparent control over the junk they leave around. Pine Tops was my favourite part of the site.

I think a Funster posted recently that most of them have gone now, I hope so as I might have a few days there in November.

Not so sure

CiTF Hollands Wood (effectively all grass pitches, non electric), Peak £38.50 (C&CC Members get 15% off)
LongBeech campsite (showground), grass pitch non electric £31.00

Both sites are almost opposite each other. Both offer amenities blocks.

I know you use The CITF sites quite a lot (in recent years) and I always liked your feedback on each of them as it was useful.
I am somewhat gobsmacked at the prices you have listed above as I don't think we have ever spent more than £14 per night, without EHU, 2 adults, no kids or pets, plus we did get the over 60's discount.
We were never CCC members either!, but still managed to get a decent deal at Sethorns up the the top in the Horse Shoe part, but as has been mentioned last time we went we did notice a lot of unkempt looking caravans, but it didnt spoil our love of the place.
I think this new management change became necessary when The CCC closed all sites for too early for long during the various Covid Lockdowns, The Forestry Commission wasn't happy about losing so much revenue I guess.
They also accepted on-line bookings right up to closing down the sites with no warning, which upset a few people who had to make last minute arrangements to other venues that were open.
All they had to do was close the utility blocks (if any were on offer) and use additional hygiene methods arround tap and black waste areas.
I hope new management works well for all concerned, it would be a shame if prices rose to the extent that its charged out the same as the other big clubs, especially for those of us that don't need facilities or EHU.
Happy Camping folks, fingers crossed for the future of CITF sites.

Wow

How much is the fine for wild parking ?????

Asking for a friend
Years ago it was the case that the fines for breaching NF byelaws around the storage of bulding materials on Forest land were waaay less than the cost of doing it legitimately.

I'd point out I have never paid those extravagant full prices. I also avoid the peaks and particularly the even more pricey bank holiday weekends, now I'm fortunate enough to have taken early retirement

Benefitting from the on board facilities of my PVC I've been able to use the basic sites, particularly Denny Wood and Aldridge Hill (these are simply water and toilet disposal), and also getting a singleton discount which exceeds the C&CC membership (30%). Aldridge Hill weekdays into first weekend of Sept (when it then closed) worked out for me at £11.10 per night.

I failed to understand why CiTF didn't reopen in 2020. I had bookings for the first week we should have been able to go, and there were then problems trying to book anywhere else in a hurry as the C&CC website linking bookings with CiTF thought I was already booked up. I suspect it was part their informal pitching (you arrive and should simply find a spot at least 6m from anyone else), meaning they weren't happy to police the social distancing even on their site without amenity blocks. That caused a lot of disappointment for not only the Forestry Commision but also the New Forest Authorities who were all scrambling to find other temporary means of opening sites - the Showground ended up with a large extra temporary site.

Not sure what the fine is for wild parking, but it is completely banned in the New Forest areas. Rangers and others do patrol and you will most likely get spotted and moved on.

And they love doing it in the early hours of the morning.

is Setthorns still contactless check in and check out?
