With almost seven million posts on the forum and over a thousand new ones every day, it's impossible to keep up with everything. Most of the time that's fine. But sometimes there's a specific topic, destination, or piece of kit you really do want to hear about, and it flies down the front page and is then buried, while you're not looking.
So I've added a new feature: Keyword Alerts. Most of you will ignore it, but some of you will find it very useful. I've been using it a little while now and it's been really good at helping me not miss stuff I want to see.
So what is it?
You set up a list of keywords, and whenever anyone mentions them in a new post or thread, you get a notification. You can also get an email if you prefer, either immediately or as a daily, weekly, or monthly digest, whichever suits you.
How to set it up
Go to your account menu (top right) and you'll find Keyword Alerts in there. Create an alert, give it a name, and add your keywords. You can have multiple keywords in a single alert, including multi-word phrases, so you're not limited to one word per topic.
The system is clever enough not to fire when someone quotes a post that contains your keyword, so you won't get buried in notifications because someone quoted a thread title twelve times. And if you're already watching a thread, it won't double-notify you.
Ideas for how to use it
This is the bit where it gets genuinely useful. Here are some ways Funsters might set it up:
Planning a trip abroad -- If you're heading to Germany this summer, set up an alert with keywords like Stellplatz, Wohnmobil, Bavaria, Black Forest, Munich, or whichever area you're exploring. You'll automatically catch anyone mentioning it.
Your motorhome make or model Set up an alert for your model (say, "Auto-Trail Chieftain" or "Roller Team Zefiro") and you'll know immediately when someone mentions it, even in a thread you'd never normally find.
Specific kit or systems; If you run Starlink, or The New Rego Renogy gear, Fogstar, whatever. You can track those terms wherever they are mentioned.
Wild camping spots; Try keywords like your preferred area: Cairngorms, Pembrokeshire, Exmoor, or specific terms like aire, sosta, or motorhome park alongside a place name.
Health and accessibility topics; Some members specifically want to find others dealing with the same conditions or mobility considerations. Add the keyword 'Prostate' and even if you are away from the forum for a few days , you'll never miss a mention. This is a quiet way to do that without having to search constantly.
Technical stuff Payload, habitation check, habitation door, skylight leak, damp, underslung tank, Al-Ko, whatever you're currently wrestling with, it's worth tracking while the problem is live. If you like helping with a specific issue, like, gas, sim cards, Starlink etc Then the alerts work for you too.
One thing worth knowing: if multiple keywords in the same alert all match the same post, you still only get one notification. So you won't be swamped.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. Anything that helps you get more out of the forum with less effort is worth having.
