This is roughly the design I’m looking at but would rather have the key on the back, the drawback is when the key starts to rotate it will knock my bikes off,,,,, back to the drawing board!

If you slot a 5 inch dia' pipe through the van and attach lots of rubber bands connected to your drive you would not need a key! plus your arms would get a good workout - oops,still need a bladdy key:oops:
 
Leave the key where it is. Just think of the fun you can have with cyclists as you drive along.

Start thinking about putting solar panels on both sides of the key and a windmill generator.
You could have one both sides so that it can double up as a step for European and home travel.
