So we are currently away on holiday and our cab battery in our 2017 Peugeot Boxer has went kaput , we are able to get by ATM untill we get back to the UK as it gets trickle charged from solar via a battery master.
We will be travelling the following route ( either route options ),, and I'm looking for recommendations on somewhere to stop where I can buy a decent starter battery at a decent price , it doesn't matter if I install it.

There is a Halfords right next to Newhaven port. Apply for a Trade card online you get 25% off batteries. I bought a Yuasa 5000 from them cheaper than Battery mega store.

If battery getting trickle from solar sounds more like alternator faulty
Alternators fine , pumping 60amps into main have batteries when required ,I meant to say they solar is charging my main have batteries , which in turn trickle charge the vehicle battery via a battery master.

Are batteries from Halfords any good ? Also I'm away from home ATM Lenny , I assume they send you our a physical trade card in the post which I would need to present ? or is it a digital trade card?

Alpha Batteries is in Rochdale, just north of Manchester, not far from your route. They have a counter where you can pick up from, in working hours.
Thanks deffo an option , I've ordered batteries from them before , never knew you could pick up direct :)

As I said I got a Yuasa from them.
Trade card you apply online and pick it up at the store, they say you need business card or letter heading but they never ask for anything.

Thanks for the super fast reply Lenny , I've just been looking at their Yussa 5000 batteries and while reading the description of one of them and it said this :
Most vehicles require this battery to be registered with the on-board computer system. Therefore, a professional fitting at a Halfords store or autocentre garage is strongly recommended.

Now I've never heard of this , is this maybe for like super upto date modern cars

Never seen that sounds like BS. Just fitted mine, a 2017 Ducato.
I did observe the recommendations due to the airbag ECU problems. I made sure the battery wasn't disconnected for more than 15 min, after fitting the new battery I left it for 15 min. Then turned the ignition on for 2/3 minutes then turned it off for 5 minutes before trying to start it.

My thoughts as well , sounded like a sales pitch.
As for the trade card , I already had an account with Halfords , so I clicked on their trade card link , entered my company name , email , address , clicked update address , then that was it , no emails , nothing about we will post out your card , or do you want to pick it up, do you remember your application?

Filled out the application online, got an email telling me to head to my local store to pick up the card. When I got there they asked my email & bought the info up on their till computer and issued a card. Just checked I still have the emails on my system.

When I bought my battery full price was £143, I paid £105.
If you have got a trade account just log in, order online to pick up at the store don't need to show the card.

I've logged in , clicked trade card , filled out the info ,never got any emails apart from reminding me I have a battery in my basket lol. Now if I log out then back in and click on trade card I get a message saying to enter my 17 digit number to activate my trade card.
Maybe they have changed it , dam I was looking forward to that nice battery for £105

Have used this company for home delivery, not Sure exactly which battery you are looking for…

Halfrauds do seem to have a good deal if it fits …
Thanks for the links , the terminals are not correct for my van, this one seems to have the terminals the correct way around, but £143 , I'll have to double check size as well

I encountered this recently and when I enquired of the meaning behind this statement, my auto-tech guy said it is relevant to some of the German EV's. They need to know what the replacement battery size is in order to assist in the stop/start/charging profile blah blah blah. He said to ignore it on our Fiat Ducato, which we duly did :giggle:

Are the Fulmen batteries that Leclerc sell any use ?
Found this one , works our at £105 , same specs as the Yuasa 5000 the £143 one that Lenny HB linked at the start

Purchased and installed , heavy brute it was

Did you go Yuasa?
Nope still in France so bought the one from Leclerc ( Fulmen ) I linked it above as my alarm is going off randomly and can't help getting the feeling it's to do with low voltage ( alarm anti theft going off ).
Anyways it worked out about £109

Is it just me? Where is France on your posted route from knockhill to Newhaven? Confused of Bristl
Dam and there is me thinking everyone on MH Fun had psychic powers :) and would know I was in France :)
But in my op I did say "we are able to get by ATM untill we get back to the UK"
but since the post our alarm started to go off by itself more and more , so I decided to change it now while we are still outside the UK to see if it stops the alarm going off due to voltage drops and the alarm thinking someone is disconnecting the battery.
Hope that makes sense to you now Riverbankannie :)

My 2017 Master battery went in March. Was away for the weekend and the AA got me started. I did not have my tools with me and as my motorhome was not on the Halfords database they would not replace the battery unless I undid the cover so not having any tools I just drove home and bought elsewhere. Strange way to not do business.

Screwdriver and even then there was no guarantee they would replace it. I was in Dumfries and had enough fuel to get back to Cambs. No guarantee they had one in stock and I prefer to give my money to companies who provide a service. I said I would pay for them to fit but they would not budge. Computer says no.

Some companies are like that sad to say :(
