Bath, unless you have a "clean" van you will be unable to use A36 to A4 to A46 as a north south route. Or the A4 east west route.
Our euro5 over 3500kg does not comply.

Curious - I just had a look at the Bath Clean Air Zone link above and it states that to be compliant (ie no charge) diesel vehicles must be Euro 6 (at least Euro 4 for petrol).

I then went to the vehicle checker which covers Bath from March and Birmingham from June 2021. I put our 2016 Euro 5 sub-3,500kg diesel van registration in and the response came back 'no charge'??

A bit weird...

I'm thinking the vehicle specifications for Bristol - not yet announced - will likely be similar, and could affect us if we have to avoid it in the van (to avoid the charge).

What a good idea, effectively blocking the A36 at Bath, the main road between two of our largest ports Southampton and Bristol. So all HGV will now have to go via Newbury and the motorway system. I do hope Bath City Council will return the money given to them to improve the through route if it is now no longer viable.

You don’t have to go to Newbury. Just pick up the A350 at Warminster and join the M4 just N of Chippenham. I do that now just to avoid going through Bath, it takes about the same time.

Based on the report in the local paper the Bath City Council (Limp Dums) want the HGVs to use the A350 north-south route instead. Not sure how practical that route might be. Useful to go from Bournemouth to Chippenham I suppose.

You cross the A350 when going from Southampton to Bath so it is no hardship to take the route. The only time I drive in Bath is when I am going to Bath.

I'm just wondering if it is something to do with it being classed as a Motor Caravan on the log book. I've just booked mine in for its second service and the garage said the registration did not come up on their system since it has been registered as such Perhaps you should phone the authorities (good luck with that). You don't want an unexpected fine.

The Bristol thing will be a pain for me, since I normally take the A37, A4, A32 going north from Wells

Don’t believe they currently have this. I live there and it’s being proposed. Shame the locals don’t allow the a36 to go across to the round about at batheaston. They had originally planned to but locals moaned it would ruin the meadow.

What classification is it if you run on lpg? serious question. Van starts on petrol and assuming I have lpg in the tanks it runs on that.

In that case you might try the sightly longer route via the A4174 Ring Road to get from the A37 to the top of the M32 then M4. Although the Ring Road will soon have 2 lots of road works, one of which is to upgrade a pedestrian + cycle bridge connecting Emersons Green to Lyde Green which apparently needs 6 weeks of lane closures.

[PS don't be fooled by the "Green" in either of these names. It's a scam. they are both massive new housing estates.]

We don’t even do it then! We park up before Victoria Park and walk - otherwise you need a King’s ransome to park! Living 15 minutes away we avoid it like the plague.... ;)

Signs are going up now.

There are exemptions.
This is the exemption page for Bath it would be £9 for you but you have to register

Discounts for PHGVs (larger motorhomes and horse transporters)

Drivers of all higher emission PHGVs (larger motorhomes and horse transporters) can pay a daily charge of £9 rather than £100 in Bath’s CAZ. Once registered with the council, you must pay for each journey using MiPermit. There is no expiry for this discount, but you will need to renew your details with us each year.

Mine came up no charge for all our vehicles. For the MGs it said no charge in UK, that is all charging zones. For the car and van it went on to say no charge for Bath.
it does say that Bath is not charging for private motorcars, so I wonder if under 3500 ducato van comes under that somehow, however ours is Euro 5.

My Euro3 Merc (2002) pushing 3.5TMGW shows as "no charge" for Bath but £9 for Birmingham.

It is all in their published charges. No charges for PLG whatever the the Euro standard (see picture below). Motorhomes up to 3500KG are registered as PLG and therefore there is no charge. PHGV charges i.e. over 3500KG for Euro 5 and below look steep, Euro 6 seem to be ok but I would still use the vehicle checker.

The service only checks vehicles that are registered in the UK. However, charges will apply to any non-compliant, chargeable vehicle travelling in the zone, even if it is registered outside the UK.

So the foreigners have to guess again?
