Hi guys,

if I have £1000 to upgrade the electrics on the MH including battery solar and associated controllers what will that kind of spend get me?

Just got an 06 Lunar MH and electrics are very basic, won’t be going off grid much but want the option of a couple of nights.

There's loads of options. It depends on what you have and what your typical usage is. Questions we'll need to see answered:
1. Any heavy mains inverter loads (i.e. hairdryers/microwaves etc.)
2. Do you drive a lot every day?
3. What time of year? (i.e. the coldest time of year do you use it?)
4. What part of the world? (i.e. the most northerly part of the world you regularly use it?)
5. Will you have access to mains power every 3 days?
6. Do you have a compressor fridge?
7. Do you have diesel heating?
8. How much TV do you watch?
9. What Euro rating is your engine?
10. What equipment do you already have?

The answers to these will determine whether to spend the balance of your money on lithium batteries, solar arrays, B2B chargers etc.

If I would be limited to 1k dosh, I would get a 300w solar panel, a victron 100/20 mppt, and a 100ah lifepo4. And would still have change for wires , fuses connectors etc.

For my usage patterns and assuming existing kit was a write-off (including the mains charger which I'd assume to be lead acid only), to last 3 days, I'd buy a 100Ah lithium (£450), a Votronic BB1260 60A B2B (£264) and a Victron BlueSmart 12/30 (£195) and sack off the solar.

Hi guys and thanks for reply’s
No inverter loads when off grid
Not winter but 3 other seasons
Furthest north is Scotland
Yes, will hook up every 2 or 3 days
3-way fridge
No diesel heater
Would watch TV but will limit to tablet when off grid

it’s an old 06 ducato 2.3 so no idea on euro cat rating, and electrics are original, battery is dead which is why I’m looking at a full upgrade.

not even sure of the eclectic set up yet, not had the van a week.

TIA

Hi Guys,

update on my needs and questions.

So it seems the battery will hold a charge, but is old so I’m thinking of upgrading, but it’s the Power Management System that seems to be at fault, switches and lights don’t seem to operate logically, and when on hook up on the drive it keeps tripping the socket at the house.

so now I’m thinking if I need to replace the pms I should think for the future, forget solar for now, but get b2b and an extra battery. What else will I need?

Thanks
