Good morning people
A little advice will be useful.my leisure battery has died and won't hold a charge anymore
Its about 5 years old so due a change.
My question is should I change it now or just before I use it again in a few months
Van is on my drive so could plug in
Not sure if it will damage anything not having a battery
Thanks in advance

If it's plugged in and working while on charge it should be fine.but then factor the cost of keeping it charged and plugged versus the new battery too if say you are keeping heating on low etc.

If you are using your charger to keep the starter battery topped up check that it's OK to run the charger without a battery connected a few aren't.
If you are using a dual solar regulator to charge the starter battery you could swap the starter battery connections to the leisure battery terminals, disconnect solar before doing it.

If you don't need the battery and are not using the motorhome for the next few months, logic would suggest buy new for when you need it. However ... battery prices are on the increase at the moment (asnd have been for a little while), so maybe waiting will cost you more?

I think defective lead acid batteries can sometimes start gassing if left on charge. I think I would want to get it down to the scrapyard sooner rather than later.

So just back from scrap yard I took the old leisure battery and the old engine one from my old transporter and received 25.50 so well worth the effort I say

Me too, but I see that brysee has already been there and done that. ;)

I came across aandncaravanservices information page regarding batteries, I would recommend that anyone in the market for batteries reads it.

Yep, I bought 4 x LFD 90s, and had I known that my cab battery was on it's way out. I would have bought 5 x of them.
The Varta LFD series is no longer produced apparently, so any still for sale are old stock. :whatthe:

Cheers,

Jock. :)
