Hi,

My Wife and have been thinking about this for some time and are now ready to bite the bullet and purchase a Motorhome.

Looking to purchase a used Motorhome , have a budget of approx. £30k. Just starting to look seriously

Mostly would be the two of us and the two dogs.

Think 3500KG so that my wife and the older kids can drive it

Min 4 berth for some space

Like the idea of a rear horse shoe lounge

Over the can bed for extra storage

Would want 4 belted seats

Good storage etc.

The ability to go off grid as we want to explore Scotland , Ireland and after that with some experience would like to do a long European road trip.

Nothing is an absolute requirement and we are happy to compromise in order to get the right balance for space / convenience and reliability

There seem to be many options out there so interested as to which makes, age, mileage (most seem to be low for the age of the vehicles), private purchase or dealer etc interested in what people would recommend.

Would a like a caravan club inspection or is the dealer warranty and guarantee suffice.

Happy to learn for all inputs and what worked out best for you all.

If there is a good thread that covers this please feel free to send me there.

Thanks

Welcome from The Cotswolds!(y)
Get to see as many ‘vans as you can, and then hire first if possible…..layout can be ‘flexible’ once you get to know what you want……..we’ve had three ‘vans in four years……our latest is (just about) perfect!;)

Welcome to Fun.

Just a couple of obvious bit of advice

1. No of berths does not dictate size. There are some enormous 2 berths. Depends if you are taking children. Family Van's are 4 berths and even 6 berths. Lots of seats that convert etc. 2 berths tend to be more comfortable and normally fixed beds.

2. Overcab bed mhs are less common now than they used to be. They are handy if you have kids. If not they are ugly, un aerodynamic and high.
3. If you have £30k you might stretch yourself to a budget new model for ot much more than another £10k. Rimor, rollerteam. Specialise in family Van's.

Rear "u" lounge may be an issue as no seat belts..
You can get vans that have U lounge and a dinette up front with seatbelt BUT most wont fit in with the 3500kg.
Good luck with your search, great to see you subscribed. You will certainly get that cash back in helpful advise and info. (y)

Hi, found a Motorhome both Myself and my wife like. Visited and have driven it and all looked and felt fine to drive, owner was very helpful and showed all we asked to see. The seller put it through an MOT, no advisories. Completed HPI Check , Commissioned Hab check and all reported as good. If i was buying a car I would have no worries, just for belt and braces is there anything else I should check

Well took the plunge at the weekend and collected our first Motor Home Knaus Sport Ti 650MG. Very happy as it gives us the layout we wanted having been to a few shows and dealers to look at what was available. Just in the process of kitting it out now. Want to add an external gas outlet for Gas BBQ which my wife has already purchased!
