The long awaited new Aires at Calais is operational. We were directed there today, there is no parking at the old Aires for motorhomes it is barriered off with council men directing motorhomes to the new Aires. It is very well thought out with lots of space and new tarmac. There is barrier system,10 euro for 24 hours. Thanks @skipper64. I guess that is on the old car storage area. Is the access from between the two roundabouts for Boulevard du Général de Gaulle and Boulevard du 8 Mai?

From the coordinates it looks like the new aire is located at the west end of Canal des Pierrettes (the canal that runs parallel with the yacht basin).

There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, one on a roundabout (towards Bleriot) called Au Gout du Jour.

Not a patch on the beach front aire, I guess, but at least somewhere to stop for the night. Do they provide EHU for the 10 euro?

Thanks for the info @skipper64 - I seem to recall there being plans for the new municipal campsite to be set up close by, is that happening or do you think that will it be somewhere else?

Also, do you know if the second MH overnight parking area backing onto the SE end of the yacht basin is still operating?

The campsite is going ahead next to the Aires and should be up and running in June. The chip situation will addressed by local commerce having space available hopefully,

We were in Calais on Monday stopped on the park by the yacht basin, and the old Aires was still open. Went on Tuesday to dump wate etc and a guy said non, non, non, but we managed to empty anyway. The Aires was then closed and barricaded. We stopped on the same park again overnight to catch the morning ferry Wednesday. Total cost £0 and frites from the square within easy walk. Not sure if they will let Moho's stay now the new Aires is open.

Don't know about the Aires by the yacht. basin, imagine as they have spent so much money on the new aires that will be finished, probably by height barriers.

The yacht basin site was never officially an aire, just a parking area where m/h parking was tolerated - although the man still came round for his money! We used it a couple of times, the first when the old one was closed due to a firework display and the second on an occasion when it was full. The latter time we had to make a somewhat hasty departure when the fair came to town...........

Should imagine with the new place opening so close by anybody trying to use the marina site will get moved on. But we no longer stay in Calais anyway, as Phil says enough places nearby for free.

Thanks for info but will stick with the stop at Cite Europe, quieter and easier for the tunnel crossing, and its free.

We use it to have a meal in the Au Cote d'Argent. Alcohol consumption may be down as the stagger is further.
