I was aware a new European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) visa was set to be introduced next year for UK nationals travelling to the continent, at a cost of €7 euro for three years.

But according to the Express, it will be free for over 70s (and under 18s), which I wasn't aware of.

Sounds like a benefit of being a bit long in the tooth...

Technically, ETIAS is not a visa. It's an authorization to enter the Schengen zone and is designed to capture information on what foreigners are in the zone at all times.

The USA charge 14$ for a 2 year ESTA. A 3 year ETIAS doesn’t sound too bad.

Operational in 2022, not obligatory until late 2022 according to the official EU website, but why worry it's only 7 euros for 3 years and probably 10 minutes online to get your visa.

Unfortunately, the Express nearly always has ridiculous headlines (and much of the content is not dissimilar).

The Express is talking out of an orifice other than their mouth.

We would still need an ETIAS for touring Europe even if we stayed in the EU, so Brexit has nothing to do with it. That is because we were never members of the Schengen zone
