I need to replace the complete drivers mirror with long arms on our Ducato.

I know many people on here recommend <Broken link removed>.
Then came across Emparts on Ebay who seem to offer exactly the same for less than half that price at £65.

Again I know many people say you get what you pay for and I generally agree. But they do look exactly the same and I don't suppose there can be that many variations in making mirrors.

Any comments would be appreciated. Anyone used Emparts before.

By the way, the smash occurred on the A82 just North of Loch Lomond....horrible stretch of road. In searching various Forums and posts for information, I was surprised to find 3 other people whose mirrors had been damaged on the same stretch of road…....so be careful out there.

Then again, perhaps 2 of them were in the same “encounter”

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I'd be interested in any replies you receive. I have a broken passenger mirror (it works ok, only casing cracked) but at the Empart prices I'd consider replacing it.

I bought a replacement outer casing from Poland, they make the original parts, off e bay ,it was around £19, a couple of years ago.fairly simple to change over.

"Now that I know everything about mirrors"...............don't forget as said depending on the damage that you can buy a clip on casing. Or others fit the Mirror guards which can also clip on and cover some damage

I cracked both plastic surrounds before I pulled them both in flat to the doors, on a trip on this road last year.

Glad it was last year...........somewhere, someone is also looking for a replacement mirror from a recent encounter on that road(with me)

But having looked at the dashcam footage it was a transit with one of those extensions for viewing a caravan. It must have stuck out an extra foot.

But how stupid to leave it there on such a difficult road.........I imagine they clip off easily.

Wish I had a pound for every mirror lost on that bit of road...£££££££££££££££

I don't suppose, Jimbohorlicks that you'll still have the link? I know I can search on eBay but there are usually so many different products/suppliers. Thanks.

UPDATE: I think this is the link. Supplier is in Poland and the price equates with what you suggested a couple of years ago. So please don't trouble yourself.

Looks to be the same company. i had no issues and it was s quick delivery as I recall. just check it's the long arm one you need.
the indicator part ,if needed, was UK based, came in one piece complete with bulb.for around £10..

Jimbohorlicks-may I ask; did you fit the new casing with the arm still on the van or did you take the arm off? I've looked at a couple of videos on YouTube covering replacing the casings and it looks like the casing could be done without removing the mirror from the van. Removing the mirror arm looks quite complex in requiring taking off the trim and possibly the blinds. So I'd rather not remove the whole arm, if possible. Any thoughts?
I don't need a new indicator, fortunately.

Hi, no I took the whole mirror assembly off the door, and found it relatively easier. I had to change the indicator assembly and a cracked mirror.
There is a good thread by Techno that describes the replacement in detail.if you go into search under techno and wing mirror,it should come up. not sure how to do links, sorry.

I've had them off Ebay (probably not the same Ebay source) and they have been OK.
I drive a Ducato minibus which has them smashed roughly one a year.
Fairly easy to fit. The only problem I found was removing the finisher off the front 'quarterlight' necessary to rear two of the mirror fixings. IIRC the front part pops off by prising it perpedicular to the vehicle centreline, ie. prise sideways. However the rear parts of the finisher pops off by prising it forwards after the front two have been prised sideways.

I did not realise this at first and broke the two rear most pegs off. I fixed the finisher back on with a couple of double sided adhesive pads.

The other problem I had was that the indicator bulbs in the repeater were of a different design and lower wattage then the OE ones. Once fitted everything worked but the can bus thought the indicator bulbs was out. This can be corrected by buying a higher wattage bulb (5w i think) or by snipping off the OE bulbholder and scotchlocking it on to the new unit.

You may have to fit the old indicator 'glass' because the bulbholder may be a diffent design and bayonet etc.

I've rambled on a bit but none of this presents an insurmountable problem and at the end of the day the replacement is indistinguishable from a dealer part and is many times cheaper.

Not rambling at all it all useful information.....................................but it's TOO LATE.

Been out this afternoon to start to disassemble and guess what.......... I broke of the 2 lugs just as you described. One side of the cover pulls out,the other side slides left.

BUT read your bit about double sided tape so that problem is solved.
And I now know what to look out for with the indicator

We discovered how narrow, especially on the twisty bits the A82 actually was last year when driving north to south. Driven it many times in the past in the car, but it should be best avoided with a MH or even worse a towed twin axle caravan.:eek::eek:
We will go up & down the other side of Lomond next time, a bit longer journey, but we are in no rush.
Hope you guys get the best solution to repairing your long arm wing mirrors, I am in a similar position with a cracked nearside rear bumper. That will have to wait until next year now, as I need to drop the van off in Southampton for repair.

Did that road in our A Class in September and thankfully got through without incident. Close though when you meet coaches and artics travelling with gusto in the opposite direction 😱

Hi this "unfixable" washer that everyone who's taken a mirror to pieces seems to have encountered, is it one of these?

Can you let us know so that we could devise a "motorhomefun mirror tightening tool" to tighten them up a bit? I've found these on loads of things and the secret is to push the inner springy edges further on to the shaft without bending them in any way.

Cheers! Russ

Just a note to be aware of if buying entire mirrors from outside the UK. Ensure you buy the correct mirror for which side the driver sits. LHD and RHD look identical but the set notches for holding the mirror head in position are slightly different in the angle from the body of the van. The wrong one will fit, but they are very hard to adjust for a correct view, in fact impossible

Sorry I don't know to what you refer..............what it is that you infer..............or indeed what speed you disapprove of me travelling.

Or have you imagined the whole thing ??????????????????????
