I am trying to workout if I can get the ankle biters into the Moho . We currently have 4 seat belts in the main body of the van. We have a curved seat with table in the back . Is there anything to stop us (law wise) from putting two more in? Also is it illegal to put seats that face backwards in a vehicle in Europe? Someone said it was .

I think it would be very difficult to add seat belts and the associated steel work and make it all legal, how many are you wanting to take and what age are they and the van?

Sorry another question. I’ve got the new health card that replaces the Ehic. Can’t seem to get insurance for more than 31 days though anybody know a company that’ll do 3 months for someone over 70?

We have currently 6 seats including driver and mate . Need to take 4 adults and 4 nippers ages 9 7 3 and newborn. So two will be in baby seats and two with booster seats.

The whole area of seatbelts in motorhomes is a legal minefield, but the easy answer to your question is No, its not possible to add additional seats.

The real answer is that anything is possible, but any new travel seats need seatbelts that are directly attatched to the chassis of the van, they will need approval (MOT) and they will need to be listed as official seats in your insurance. So its normally prohibatively expensive to do as it will require custom welded parts and engineering work done.

NB - backward facing seats is OK. Sideways with lap belts is not.

Nationwide FlexPlus bank account -£13/ month, with extra for >70 and for >30 days. We find it good value , but don’t know your health status. UK & EU breakdown & phones cover included.

I think you would be best taking a car as well with so many people.

Or hire a car when you get to your destination flying or training your additional family.

We have a six berth van with 4 travel seats, usually there are only 2 or 3 travelers but an addition vehicle when we are a party of 5 or more is very practical.

We use Just Travel (JustTravelCover.com). They cover us for trips of 93 days and are also good for existing medical conditions.

I can’t believe people are still asking this question ….

I hope it’s not a case of Eeny, meeny, miny, moe who gets the seatbelt….😔

Don’t ever think it’s ok to put in your own seatbelts or let people sit in without one…

At the great risk of starting a dogs thread, that applies to animals in vehicles too.
If not strapped/clipped in they will travel 30mph straight through the windscreen.

I have a 5/6 berth motorhome with 4 forward facing enertia seat belts, for use with child seats if required or children/adults, and 2 rear facing lap belts for use by adults only and all factory fitted at point of manufacture.
I can positively tell you that when our 2 Grand Apprentices travel with myself and my wife, our eldest grand apprentice is up front with myself in a full child seat, even though he is 10 years old, whilst his brother is also in a full child seat but on a forward facing full seat belt , but in the rear and closest to the window ( not a good idea to have him on the outer belt nearest the gangway as there is no side support there, but putting an adult next to him gives some sideways bolstering.

The remaining 2 rear facing lap belts can then be used by 2 further adults.
When we travel as 6 persons, 4 adults and 2 children for a single day out we are just about OK for space for travelling and safe, but no way would there be enough seating room or real sleeping room , mainly because the child seats need to be stored when not in use, and unless you have a rear garage or very big external lockers, you will be amazed how bulky, cumbersome, heavy and awkward they are to realistically store in a van whilst trying to live in it.
We should know because we have been through this scenario, and thankfully ours are now just about able to use booster seats, but the big proper child seats are an absolute pain to lug around.
And don't get me started on trying to include a pushchair!!!

Think unfortunately you will need 2 vehicles
If you want to be within the law, but much more importantly, SAFE.
Only my experienced opinion though.

Could you get insurance by booking via Eurotunnel?

As I said somewhere or another I am working my way through the options. We are well experienced at kit and the pain of it. I have a wheelchair as I have had a stroke and a disability scooter which travels behind the Moho . We have 14 grandchildren and are going to Spain next trip to welcome number 15😫.we are working out a way to travel with 4 girls but my son will not have yet bought a 7 seater car which will hopefully exist next year. So I think we will put on hold until next year our trip through France back to England and they can all fly straight to Gatwick and we will meet them but not with the Moho . Talk about God willing and a prevailing wind 😂

for health insurance we use LV both over 70 and existing conditions, not much more than the extra I would have had to pay on top of the £13. Month with nationwide.
We did have a 6 berth motorhome 6 full seatbelts bur fitting the kids car seats was problematic, for yera we have done. Me motorhome John car with the grandkids, but not ventured abroad with them.
