Rapido V68 Van Conversion

I'm looking for recommendations for somebody - ideally in the general Bristol / Weston-super-Mare area - who would be competent to fit a replacement Thule Project 2000 electric step 550 to my Ducato-based van conversion.

I think a new step costs circa £270-£330, depending where purchased.

I'm seeking a competent technician / company to just fit it (and I source the step); or to supply AND fit - I'm relaxed either way.

I've had a quick look through the 'review' section on Fun, but didn't immediately spot anyone locally.

Thanks!

I did think about Vanbitz - they installed our reversing camera - excellent service!

Not sure if fitting a new step is in their field of business, though doubtless they are perfectly competent to do it.

I'll probably have a word with them - thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you, but I agree it isn't really our core business, you need someone that does them regularly, not some one like us! Our guys would read the instructions ten times then argue with each other in the workshop the best way to do it! and they'd still be offering opinions at tea time!

Give us a brand new £200K motorhome and we've cut the hole for the Air Con installation and started mousing the wires before the mid morning tea break! Ask us to fit a bike rack and suddenly there is a debate lol

These guys are active on Facebook and seem to get good reviews but I’ve not used them myself, in Yate

Good to see your van has arrived. It seems a long time ago that we just missed bringing it back for you.

A small mudflap fitted in front of the project 2000 step keeps all the dirt from the front wheel out of the fragile mechanism. Cheap Italian design. Fitted the step myself and fabricated the hanging kit to save money. Just remember it's there when you drive over high kerbs ect. Good luck.

Nice one! The mudflap is a good idea.

And you're right - the electric steps on PVCs are very low-slung and easy to damage. First time ours bust - although going VERY slowly - an over height speed bump in the middle of a little Spanish village caught it. Managed to get it repaired quickly at Hispavan, at Antar, Almeria.

But think it's curtains this time... :(

Thanks Annie. Your recommendation looks well worth investigating.

Yes, we're glad to have the van back. The haulage company were excellent - they picked it up in Alicante on Thursday evening and came back on Brittany Ferries Santander-Portsmouth - delivered to our house lunchtime today.

Saved all that faff driving back... ;) (y)
