NEC show in October (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

We are non motorhome owners looking to buy secondhand would it be worth a visit to the NEC?

ie: will we get lots of free advice and a camper/motorhome for under £15000!

Best to have a nose around the Lincoln show next weekend as a day visitor - get some idea of what layouts there are, plus a few quite unaffordable items. Good to get a feel for it. If you ever see something you like the look of, just put it up here are there is plenty of good advice

You will get the chance to see loads of different layouts and also to speak with some dealers who will hopefully be taking a few Motorhomes as trade ins over the week. So in my opinion be upfront and tell the dealers what your after and give them your number it might help.

We went to Newark a couple of weeks back, had a good day but was a bit disappointed.

Will Lincoln be any better do you think?

Worth going to NEC to see full range of manufacturers so you can compare their fit & finish plus every layout on the UK market that you can try so really can work out what you are looking for in a new or secondhand motorhome No secondhand motorhomes for sale there that but lots of sales staff who would have secondhand stock at their dealership or will be having motorhomes traded in for the ones that they have sold at the show however think most will be focused on hitting their sales targets of new ones. It's a great day out or two (loads to see) for anyone interested in motorhomes but good idea to wear practical shoes , clothing layers (gets hot with so many people), take drinks & some food as quite expensive there & very busy especially at the weeekend. Dealers will give you lots of "advice" but watch out for the hard sell! Do you want to buy from a dealer or privately. Could be a good time to advertise as a wanted add for people looking at buying new and wanting a better deal than trading in.

i would have said go to the NEC.there will be every make and model on show there and you can have a good look at all the layouts and see which one suits you best.and its all indoors so if the weather is not nice you will be fine.good luck with your hunt.

Do as many shows and visit dealers as you can... It's the only way you can look at all the layouts and start picking up tips.. Lincoln for the used vans and end of season sale.. NEC is almost all new vans..

As you are in the market to buying without a trade-in you are in a good position to get a good price if you were looking to buy new or used from a dealer(knock them down). If you are looking around to buy privatly be very careful out there. There are various scams on the auction sites and a few Funsters on here seem to find the scams and have fun with them until they are taken down by the sites. Also a recent post about a HPI check on here where a fellow Funsters ended up buying a previously written off vehicle which thus devalued his unit. a bit of Commen sence and please come back here for any advice, there are some guys on here who seem to know about everything.

Yes it could be dodgy buying privately but I suspect at the price being looked at the dealers would be quite a bit dearer and not necessarily be very reliable on aftersales (for motorhomes its the lower end of the market). I have always thought you are buying the seller not the car/motorhome and walk away if you aren't happy. I would be a lot happier buying privately at that end of the market you can speak to the previous owner get some idea of what sort of person they are ask about any history/servicing/accidents /problems etc. Given the age of many motorhome owners there will always be a few reluctant sellers of good well looked after motorhomes due to health/age/lack of use/running costs that could be very good buys.
