We have bought an Autotrail Tracker FB today at the NEC. We took note of a lot of advice from all the differing opinions that we have had about buying a new vehicle. But in the end have dived in, warts and all.

Really looking forward to our first long trip, probably through France and Spain next year with our Border Terrier Eddie.

There is a lot of experienced advice on this site about accessories. Thanks to everyone who has shared their experience, we need all the advice that we can get.

What a great style of travelling.

Thank you for all the good wishes and kind comments. We are promised the van sometime in March 2015, with a view to spending a few months testing and getting use to it. Alex, my wife retires in March so we aim to head across or under the Channel in May for a lengthy European trip. France, Spain and perhaps Portugal. That is the beauty of it I guess as Jackyboy61 suggests, following our instincts-and the sun.
Thanks again.

Congratulations and happy travelling. We will be visiting the show on Saturday and will consider a purchase if the terms are favourable. Autotrail is on our list so any advice on price discounts through haggling?

So pleased for you, you will now discover a sense of adventure and freedom like no other (ok, maybe sailing then) You are only limited by your own imagination (and funds!!) Your idea of a jaunt through France and Spain would be a great first sojourn, just about everyone on here has probably done it (maybe?) and you will get lots of advice from people about good sites, wild camping, places to avoid, places not to avoid etc just ask and you will probably receive. Did a similar trip myself a few years ago, started in Calais and hogged the coast all the way down northern and North West France and round the corner to Northern Spain and Costa da Morte down to Porto and back across country to Santander a great trip.

There are many great places to visit and fiesta season is a blast (but busy). One site that sticks out for me is http://www.campinglapaz.com/ in northern Spain, the c&cc have all descriptions of this site in english here

Enjoy your travels and have fun

Hello again,
Thank you again for all the good wishes and support. For ABZSteve we spent a long time cultivating a couple of the Autotrail dealers near us before the show. We got a pre show price for the MH plus add-ons and at the show Alex is a formidable negotiator so several items were further reduced. 10% off the base price is pretty common, but we got that plus free corner steadies, a heated water tank, 25% off comprehensive and European insurance and 10% off offered from all the firms doing van protection services ( carpets/upholstery/body protection etc.). It was reported to be slow Monday and Tuesday pm despite the NEC being packed. We are still in a recession for many after all.
It was carnival time and everyone seemed up for a deal of some sort.
We had listened to experienced advice here about avoiding getting carried away, so we stuck to a precise shopping list and only bought what we had agreed beforehand. It is a bit of a sweetie shop. But we chatted to experts on getting good WIFI in Europe, quality campsites, joining the various camping clubs etc. so that was all useful.

Vans and tugs since mid 70's
Good choice(y) (yes I'm biased) but we've had a number of MH's over the last 20 years and every change of van has been like moving house again - a great adventure and in all our experiences they are getting better and better:):):)

Getting there!
Totally new to the game, we ordered a new van at the show last year and finally took delivery in May this year. It's been the best thing we've done. In fact the piccie on our avatar is the vans inaugural outing to Germany/Austria. Picked up no end of top advice on this forum too. Love it. Sat here now writing this from the comfort of the van in Kielder !!!!
