Tugger now Motorhome
Show organiser NCC Events has today announced the postponement of the 2021 Caravan, Camping & Motorhome show, scheduled to take place 23-28 February 2021 at the NEC in Birmingham.

That's planning ahead

Thats a mistake in my opinion, how is it OK to open a supermarket but not an exhibition centre? Germany showed that it can be done, fewer exhibitors, proper planning, lots of directing staff and strict SD etc.

The exhibition/event industry is dying on it's feet, IMO it's so unnecessary and especially when so many small business's depend on it

Yes, That means we exhibition contractors will still not be working a year since lockdown, PLSA Edinburgh in March is now an on line event only. That was last live Finacial exhibition in the UK in 2020.

We are seeing companies closing everyday.

And still the only "industry" the Gov. are concerned with getting up and running is the hospitality sector, what about getting manufacturing and commerce up, running and contributing to the economic recovery,. Furlough for these and getting pubs, restaurants etc did not work first time, so reverse it, furlough the hospitality and open factories and offices, most of which are naturally better at social distancing than a pub for example.
All those in food production, distribution and selling were not furloughed, kept on working and they all seem to be OK as do the Key workers.
Just what is going on here, on Anglia news last night it was demonstrated that there are less that 100 positive results per 100,000 positive tests, thats 0.1 %. but the graph shows the same level of "Cases" as in May when virtually no tests were being carried out, just on those presenting with symptoms, who were sure to test positive, whereas now they are testing everybody symptoms or not and only getting 0.1 % positive. Sort of proves the "conspiracy theory" that this virus is being used to manipulate the economy, travel and the public in general.
Ad as for Trump's latest publicity stunt!! I am lostr for words

The thing the conspiracy mob have never come up with is a reason why any government let alone all the major western economies would want to trash the economy.
When you say all food production has been safe you seem to have forgotten all the meat processing plants!
I do though agree that we ought to be getting manufacturers etc back and applying measures where there's the least benefit to the economy and greatest risk of transmission. I think overall they've been pretty good at that and I'm not a natural Boris supporter.
The motorhome and caravan market I suspect is from what I've heard pretty buoyant I think quite a few will be happy to sell lots and save the exhibition costs.

I gave your post a like, but that's obviously not what I meant.

Something needs to be done for this sector.

I've mentioned quite a few times that we went fulltime just before the lockdown, it became very difficult to be in a motorhome initially (remember sites were closed) and a friend came to the rescue and let us park outside his business premises.

He's in the exhibition/event sector and went from being booked up for over a year, to absolutely nothing. This is why I've been building a few vans for him to hire out. He had to do something to stay afloat.

Now it looks like the industry won't start to recover for at least a year. Who can survive that?

Not trash the economy but slow growth, which has been spiralling upwards far too fast, and to curb travel especially air travel to try and sort out the green issues, which has been achieved,
If the meat processing industry has been affected, i have not noticed any shortage of any meat products, so where have they been coming from.
Motorhome and caravan market may be buoyant at present because of restrictions on flying, but just wait until those who can fly again are allowed to, and they then sell their units, the market will be flooded and prices / demand will fall through the floor to the detriment of the true followers of our pasttime.

It may be a mistake to cancel this, but the NEC, at least a substantial part of, is being used for the NHS Nightingale. I'd suspect that the Nightingale is expected to still be in place, even though it's hoped not to be in use.

You really think that growth is just being slowed!!!!!!!. and they are doing it to limit air travel. Wow the lizard people aren't that big a stretch from there!

I think it's more to do with economics. If they cancel early theres no worries on refunds etc. It might well be they have cancellation insurance and can't get cover I would want a pretty high premium to gamble on it.

Another thing to think of, maybe manufacturers/dealers may question why they need to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds at the shows, when their orderbooks are brimming full
Just a thought

The problem may not be directly with the venue. Local Authorities appear to have a bigger say than I ever thought into general public access venues licensing and opening even when they are private premises. I have read of a couple of events where the reason for not having the event was no or withdrawn permission from local authority, and that usually implies no insurance if anything goes wrong. Would anyone trust the great British public to just suck it up and get on with it if something went wrong?

I believe the main Covid facility has been decommissioned and a smaller non Covid area allocated if required. As a previous poster mentioned, the Germans have managed a show so why can’t we ?

Because,it appears, “we” are “so confused” about the rules and adherence to same, that we have to have prescribed/enforced rules
Its a shame
