NEC Cancelled

I imagine it’s because none of the van manufacturers have anything to sell ?
That and impossible to social distance properly.
I wasn’t bothered this year to be honest! We are stacked out in all departments and would rather have my team all back at base!

No social distancing at Wimbledon today. My sons graduation cancelled because of social distancing its time to stop this nonsense now. Sorry for hijacking your thread fed up with it all now
I'm not commenting either way, but there does seem to be a complete lack of consistency, no wonder people are confused or twist things to suit their agenda ?

Would agree, also a sign of things that will continue into 2022 with shortage of parts in general across multiple supply chains in all industries.

You obviously haven't seen The Covid-19 entry requirments for Wimbledon and the reasons for them:rolleyes:
I have & read the
This ;;
""
Ticket-holders resident elsewhere in the UK or an overseas country:

  • You may demonstrate your COVID status using the COVID Pass if you are fully vaccinated. For more information on how to do this, please click here. ""
is useless . Try clicking on the link.Nothing shown on that gov.uk link for what foreigners do even though it says it does.
Even reading the first part of what is required it states that if you can't show vaccinations, pcr test, been infected , etc; etc; you can still gain entry by doing a "free lateral flow test, which can be self-administered at home or at your accommodation in England, and report your result via the NHS Self-Report Tool.""

That's impossible to scam isn't it?

It is all smoke & mirrors

:) Thanks. I was not up to date and missed the 2 day old news.
When I was getting feedback from the live band community last week there was disappointment that the likes of the Wimbledons & Silverstones could continue but the summer music festival season had again been wiped out.

We have already turned down our stand at the Feb & Oct NEC 2022

Last place I intend to go or expose my staff to.
That’s a good attitude as an employer 👍🏻. I suspect you will still increase your company turnover in 2022 without the need for trade shows.

Wimbledon outdoors?
Graduation indoors?
Plus some sporting events are being trialled to see the impact of loosening restrictions.

No point in paying the NEC absolute fortunes for floor space if you have plenty of customers, we used to do NEC every year a very expensive show but we had to be there to be in the game, even carpets lights and sockets were charged at a premium, makes Motorhome dealers look like a charity 🤣🤣🤣

Indeed . The stand charges are crazy and the price they charge for lights and fridges etc is madness . Obviously can only be installed by the NECs own electrician contractor .

To give you an idea. We get charged £1500 per salesman per stand to be able to attend, then £1000 per salesman for hotels. £1000 per night to cover food and drink. Then our are competing from people that expect you to make £1000 per unit to compete to beat the other 20 dealers that have a go. I had a Scottish guy that came up to me and asked if I was Simon from the Bailey group I said yes. He said he wanted to buy from me because of my involvement with the Bailey group but then said he had had a quote from 6 dealers and I should beat it and I said no what’s the point. He got so angry it was comical!
I cannot see when as a dealers point of view why I should give away stock and leave my two sites depleted of staff to chuck away vans that I don’t have in a pandemic.
Although the pandemic is officially over as no one wears masks anymore in supermarkets and car boots are on and I have to tell at least 2 customers a day to back away from me and put a mask on. One bloke today said it’s all “Bollocks” I politely explained that after being rushed to hospital twice last year and nearly not making it out because of my diabetes complications I am sure he is right and the government isn’t!

Interesting;

Having had a fairly full range of your products fitted to my van, I'm aware of what you sell and your market.
I've also been on the stands of more trade shows, globally, over the last 40+ years, than most people have had hot dinners.

Whilst I may agree that Feb 22 may be a bit early, as we will be in full winter NHS overload at that time, so footfall may be low, I'd have thought by October 22 the worst of the pandemic will be behind us, and motorhomes being nicked up and down the country during the summer of 2022 due to the shortage would mean a bumper season for your products at that point.

As I'm sure you know there are ways of saving money doing the shows, max two sales people, sleep in a motorhome locally, just never limit (within reason) the bar/food bill !

Remember the biggest buyers of your products are the other exhibitors!

You treat your staff to well at those prices 🤣

Im with you
Every chassis you get for the next 6 months at least you need to maximise the opportunity
Otherwise, you wont be here when the majority need you in 2 years

Discount is the scourge of residual value, everyone with a 2 or 3 year old van should be happy and sit tight for 18 months of depreciation-free leisure👍

Yes graduation in doors sat two metres apart in a ventilated sports hall.
Winbledon outdoors no social distancing no seperation of seats and rugby scrum outside for strawberries and cream absolute nonsense

It was this October 21 show that was postponed. Whether it was from a lack of interest by trade, or worries about where we might be with Covid, I don't know, probably a combination of both.

Such a shame, our events industry is so important to the country but is dying on its feet. Let's hope for good things for that sector in 2022

You need the graduation to follow the Covid-19 entry requirments for Wimbledon and also? be a test event.

If Supply Chains globally are still on their knees, or staggering along like a Friday night drunkard, there is little point in paying NEC premium rates for a stand to sell stock you don't yet have and where you are dependent upon Fiat et al giving delivery dates that in turn depend on their workforce staying COVID free and the same for their 'Just in Time' suppliers to do likewise.

The Bank of England is monitoring consumer spend via Debit & Credit Cards on a weekly basis to track economic recovery and is worried about the unwinding of furlough reducing employees' earnings with consequent reduction in purchasing power/demand. Industry requires more working capital to restart production [more businesses go bust on the exit from recession than go broke on the way into recession, because the latter allows businesses to sell anything and everything to produce cashflow, but the upturn sees them with insufficient assets, sales and woring capital to fund the recovery, although the Banks have learned from the 2008 Financial Crash and are slightly less draconian in their approach to struggling businesses].

On a personal note, we have built up a decent amount of savings during lockdown and I worked out that a full year's interest on our cash savings would yield about £25. So I obtained a Settlement Figure for my car PCP Agreement and was pleasantly surprised to see that I could save £655.83 interest by repaying 17 months early. So I early settled to benefit by a net £630 and I must now start saving again, before I can contribute to the economic recovery [apart from buying a Lithium Battery in 2 weeks time!].

I wonder how the events industry can be important when theres nothing to sell. I was speaking to an architect yesterday who's had to put a project on hold as the roof tiles are estimated to be available in December. Whats the point having any building supplies/renovation shows if there are no materials.

I bet there are a lot of people with stuff on credit but cash in the bank like your PCP. I can't figure out why people do it.

I guess we are all fed up with the situation just as my Grandparents were when thier house Vanished from the face of the earth one evening in the 1940's so maybe its no so hard for us.

In the mean time this is what happened at one outdoor event:

Covid Scotland: Almost 2,000 Scots attended Euro celebrations or matches with coronavirus

Currently 26,000 new cases and 1700 in Hospital they may be even more fed up with the 'nonsense' as it become very real for those who suffer.

If we give this virus more opportunity to spread it may just morph into Variant C and put us back to the point where we started.

Hope everyone and thier families stay safe and well

The PCP came with 2 Full Services included, 2 free MOTs and Repairs cover and enabled me to save the cash I would have committed to the purchase of a depreciating asset. The cash value of that package was around £1200 in the 2 years, including a very expensive repair on the 2nd MOT, so I am in profit on the Deal and the Dealer will not recoup his outlay via repair and servicing bills that independent garages can do as well and cheaper.
