Not Long Enough...!!
Hoping a tech person can come up with the answer.

We are using a Samsung tablet t585 as a hotspot, Our Samsung nc10 on XP can see the WiFi available but will not connect.

Some one said it could be a security issue on the tablet being newer than the Nc10. Have looked on interweb and the info some sites are saying we can't seem to work out how to do it.

So it' down the technical assistance of MHF members

Try a different sim in the tablet, not all networks work with hotspots on all devices. Had the problem on my last phone couldn't connect to it with a plusnet sim in it, sorted it by going into debugging mode and download some code to it.
Also does your contract allow thering..

As @Lenny HB says you are going to have to try a process of deduction. I.e.

Will it connect to a normal WiFi signal?

Can you try it on another hotspot?

Does another device connect to the hotspot your NC10 won't connect too etc.

I use a NC10 but with Linux installed and never had a problem although it is getting a little slow!

I'm taking a guess a WAP, WAP2 sort of thing, the protection level.

Old netbook might be limited to WAP and new tablet requires WAP2.

See what you can find poking around under Security / Protection.

Thanks All.
It' a Wap problem, if I set it to Open then the computer connects, but password it will not.

Just got to make sure nobody has connected while Chris is on.

It you can't get Wep to work, you will just a case of selecting the right type of encryption that suits both devices. In the meantime you could turn off the SSID.

More than toes wet now!
Given the probable age of the netbook guess it should be WPA2 compatible.
Have you checked your hotspot is configured as WPA2 (AES or TKIP) and likewise for the netbook?
