Hi everyone

We just hooked up to a bollard on an aire in France and my reversed polarity light came on? Am I safe to "stay calm" ignore the light and carry on?

I'd carry on using it and give it a good ticking off as I leave.

Yes - almost certainly.

But it does depend a little on how old your motorhome is. Our 2012 Autotrail did not really like working with the polarity being reversed.

But if you are on the European two pin plug just take it out, turn it 180 degrees and put it back. That should sort it out.

I carry a spare connector wired incorrectly to get correct polarity - my bro lives over there and his EL is reversed. Our lead guitarist over there had a shock from it.

My thoughts exactly, and anyway I quickly forgot about the reversed polarity when a Frenchman drove his motorhome onto the grass and sank, he looks pretty angry right now lol

12v reverse polarity is usually fatal to any item plugged in.
230v reverse polarity is a mere inconvenience especially if you have a warning light.

Must have plugged into some but as we have no light never worried. Why not leave it and if its fine take the bulb out so it doesn't worry you next time!

ASSUMING. You have regularly tested your RCD, and it is functioning as the manufacturer intended. You are probably going to SURVIVE. However the safest way would be to take action and change the polarity of your connection, either by use of a "reverse link" (short connector wired "Wrongly") or even opening the plug and swapping (usually Brown and Blue) tails. The issue should you have a defective RCD, would be your appliances if they had faults, could deliver a fatal shock. RCD`s have been known to fail!.. In my Experience, many Spanish site EHU`s have "iffy" wiring, and are not tested as regularly as the UK. I don`t know about French sites but have come across a couple of Aires, where the old 2pin plus strip earth plug needed the be turned 180 degrees. I assumed by now most of these would have been phased out?
