Just coming to renew above {extras } and am beginning to wonder if its still good value. £13 month plus £65 {over 70 } wifes Asthma (£134)Total £356.Anyone got any suggestions?

Your £13 a month could (and is by others) written off by covering breakdown cover for all the vehicles at home (and on the roads of UK and Europe.)

I've had it for more than 5 years, primarily for the Europewide cover on my 5 vehicles on just one policy. No faffing about renewing cover or researching competitive quotes every year, plus the health cover and more, all for £13 a month.

It certainly is for us, with three cars (including moho) and a motorbike it pays for itself with the breakdown cover alone.

after going around all the travel insurance company's it is still very good for us. Then add in breakdown cover as well.

Not suggesting that overall Nationwide isn't good value but there are some very competitive breakdown policies out there. I pay £60 for my breakdown cover. It covers me in any car I drive, whether I own it or not and includes home start.

£60 a year presumably, so if you have European health cover at more than £96 it's more than N'wide charge for both at £156 p.a. including camera and phone cover.

Does that same cover a 4.5tonne motorhome in Europe as well as the car(s) at home.

To be honest I've never checked as I have UK Euro cover for my Motorhome as part of my motorhome insurance. I was just saying it for people to be aware of alternatives. Seems a lot of people think expensive cover by RAC/AA is the only options out there.

It might be part of your insurance but you are paying for it but you don’t know how much unless you shop around and get insurance quotes without it so you are effectively paying twice.

Yes, I get your point.
I imagine that whichever package(s) or provider(s) one chooses they'll all be much the same cost in the end, especially after add-ons for various non-core benefits, pre-existing health conditions etc.
To me all insurance is a frustratingly time-consuming grudge purchase from companies out to confuse and diddle me.

Cheapest insurance quote overall (had 7 quotes) including breakdown.

I did have Nationwide but cancelled as travel is limited to 31 days. Extending it to 60 was very expensive and made it cheaper to buy separate. OK if you don't do more than 31 days.

I see they cover your wedding clothes though so useful if you're getting married. ;)

Unfortunately I'm too late to claim for the shirts that my ex's had off my back. :giggle:

We find FlexPlus good value - <6m, 3500kg motorhome; 70+ age, 90 days’ travel - UK+EU breakdown, travel ins and mobile phones. Just under £300. We don’t have cover for pre-existing conditions (nothing that would require hospital or re-patriation) so of course that would change your particular calculation.

We used the old Flex account with free European travel insurance with extended use and worldwide travel when needed. Now have FlexPlus with all the additional benefits including European vehicle rescue and still economic to extend the 31 days when touring with the MH.

That's interesting as I'm currently looking for annual multi trip worldwide (not USA) including cruise cover for a couple over 70. Some of the quotes I've been getting have been laughable with one adding £500 for an extra asthma inhaler (2 to 3 instead of 1 to 2) £2400+ up to £2900+. Don't particularly need the breakdown cover on the car as that's covered by the annual service. Even with the medical cover it's got to be the best we're likely to get. A phone call to get advice on medical add ons is forthcoming.

We have previously purchased annual travel insurance from various companies, much the same with breakdown insurance. However it all changes when you reach the age of 70. We are off to the US for a family wedding shortly and the quotes we were receiving for worldwide travel insurance were very expensive, eye watering in fact. By far the best deal was from Nationwide flex plus, £13pm plus a £230 supplement for 30 days in America, this policy also offers breakdown cover on our car/bikes and motorhome. ( unfortunately for a while the vehicles will be double insured, but hey ho) We will have have to pay supplements for European trips in excess of 31 days, but I don’t know the amount yet.

how much is the extended trip insurance ?

I purchased a trip extension today, paid £57.
This covers us for 56 consecutive days, no limit on the amount of trips per year.
Wife has no medical conditions, high blood pressure declared for myself.

Can’t quite remember but to extend time in Europe for remaining policy period was about £46 with both of us over 70. For a couple of trips outside Europe, China and India, they were about £75. These costs were at least 5/6 years ago (pre hyper inflation).

a quote for australia 100 days is an additional £158.40 for the whole year (but they calculate it pro rata on number of days left on policy)
- i reckon thats a bargain at my age and medical history

edit: to put it in perspective, my previous policy was over £800 annaul and limited to 30 days

Plus the cost to extend the travel insurance days, I've just done this exercise and NW came out a lot more expensive than buying policies separately. The only way to know for sure is to get the cost of add ons for medical conditions and extra days to properly compare.

If we had a few vehicles it would probably work out more favourable but the breakdown cover for our car is only £19 a year as we don't do more than 1,500 miles.

None of that applies to me and we all have different circumstances. As with many insurance issues people need to get specific quotes rather than rely upon others' diverse anecdotal experiences, although they can be useful as signposts to companies.

Does your cover, cover 2 drivers any vehicle and vehicles that are are 16 years old? We would have been fine but some refused to cover my old doblo, others John's motorbike. Am completely unenamoured by RAC after the fiasco recovery from Chester.
However I am about to change my bank so Nationwide flexi is now in the running.

I wonder if someone like sedge can cast any light on this. We don’t really want the medical insurance with Nationwide Flex as we’ve got really good comprehensive cover with our bank account. However the breakdown cover is really really good with Nationwide. I’m not sure what happens in the event of “double cover” in the even of a medical emergency abroad. I’ve tried googling it and it’s not clear. They cover countries that few do.

We’d be going abroad knowingly not using Nationwide as we were insured elsewhere but could the company we were insured with “find out” and then make a fuss. We would have conditions not covered by the basic Nationwide flexplus without paying extra.

I think that's the key point. Since you haven't declared notifiable conditions and paid the extra charge you don't qualify for the N'wide cover anyway.

So just phoned them up and the answer is yes

Phone insurance
Cover everyone that lives at the home address

Travel insurance
Covers family even if the account holder isn't travelling with them

Break down
Covers drives of the vehicle if its registered to the account and the account holder isn't driving or any vehicle that account holder is in
